"Whoosh" Sound When Sprinting?
I know this isn't a bug or anything, but the "whoosh" sound (or whatever it is) that occurs whenever you press Shift to sprint gets kind of annoying and I was wondering if there's any way to get rid of it by going into the game files. I know Ross Scott managed to get rid of the sound for Freeman's Mind 2 (as well as other sounds in both games), so I'm thinking that there has to be a way to go about this. Any suggestions?

Well, in Black mesa you have the same sound, there was a mod in the workshop for that game that made that sound's file empty so it would get muted, you could try that

The sound is basically Gordon Freeman breathing heavily due to sprinting.

... It doesn't sound like breathing, but I'll take your word for it.

Yeah, that sound is annoying. I replaced it with an empty sound file. You could try that.
Where might I find the sound file? Basically, whenever I go into Half-Life 2's files, I can never figure out where anything is, and then I end up having an existential crisis, and then I end up having to rethink my life choices, and I always wind up taking a cold shower while drinking heavy amounts of Whiskey. So knowing where I can find the sound file would save me a lot of time.

Let it go, the whoosh sound is a small price to pay for a great game

The whoosh sound is the least of my gripes with the game (though I still like the game overall), but I figured it's the one thing that's absolutely harmless to tamper with.

EITHER create a silent wave file (or a blank text file) in this location:
...\Steam\steamapps\common\Half-Life 2\hl2\custom\sounds\sound\player\suit_sprint.wav

OR edit the "volume" to "0" for "HL2Player.SprintStart" in this file:
...\Steam\steamapps\common\Half-Life 2\hl2\scripts\game_sounds_player.txt

To reduce the chance of an existential crisis, download and install GCFScape
Use it to open the *_dir.vpk files in this folder:
...\Steam\steamapps\common\Half-Life 2\hl2\
to see where Valve hides most of the game files.
