Half-Life 2 makes use of DirectX 9 and lower. Having a DirectX 11/12 compatible card doesn't add any extra graphical features.

you can but it wont use any of the dx11 fancy shiz (in console type in "mat_dxlevel 110")

this data if for anyone who wonders this (i know its an 7/8yr old reply)
