HL2 Prefabs are nowhere to be found.

People say there are prefabs of stuff from HL2 in the bin folder of one of the SDK versions, but I don't think they're there for me. Neither do they appear in the prefabs list in the Hammer editor.

Do I need to somehow add them myself?

I'm assuming you're using the editor located in HL2's bin folder instead of the Source SDK version. (that's fine, by the way)

The HL2 prefabs are located in the Source SDK, but you can copy them to the "bin/Prefabs" folder in Half-Life 2.

When Source SDK is installed, you can find the prefabs here:

Steam\SteamApps\common\SourceSDK\bin\source2007\bin\prefabs\Prefabs HL2

If you're not using Half-Life 2's version of Hammer Editor, please elaborate further.

Okay, I see what the problem is. You need to have the tool that's just called "Source SDK", not just the seperate versions like 2007 etc...

Yes, I am a fan of Blast. I was one of the first people to make one of those challenges, but it mostly ends there. What I learned from that is being channeled into something wacky. (nowhere near final form)

I have a few regrets on some of the comments on Lavinia's videos.
