Why is my webcam turned on when this game is started?
Does anyone know why this game turns on my computer's webcam when I start it? I have a Microsoft LifeCam that has a bright blue light on the top when it is being used, and that lights up whenever I start this game. Is this a bug? Are my expressions being recorded and sent along for the experiment? :) Very curious. Thanks for any info!

Note, my theory is that the UDK has some kind of default webcam behavior that was not properly configured when the game was built, or the devs messed around with a webcam library and forgot to remove it for the final build. Kind of a wonky theory, but as someone who makes their living writing code it seems to be the most obvious reason.

might just be the UDK hooking in to the microphone portion of it. I have the same Camera but mine doesnt light up, However I have a diffrent default microphone.

That sounds reasonable. Check your default microphone.

It was set as the default microphone. I changed the default microphone and now the camera does not light up. Thanks!

I have the same problem, but there is only one mic device to available, so I can't choose other device as default.

Why would a puzzle game use a microphone in the first place..?

It was just Nvidia DVR/sharing option turned on. Solved it. If anyone else has this and is confused, go to Nvidia GeForce Experience and disable webcamming.
Definitely so that illuminati could monitor you and your behaviour, as you respond to the gameplay.

Mostly as a fourth-wall-breaking gimmick where the solution is that you, the player take the action suggested by a hint instead of having an in-game character do it.

This was it for me too: GeForce Experience Settings -> General -> Turn off Sharing.
If you ever think about watching porn, mind this. They are watching you.

Some Acer models will automatically activate the webcam when you connect a headset or speakers. This allows the system to support Waves NX audio technology to provide a 360 degree audio experience. Waves NX uses the webcam in your computer to adjusts the sound experience when you turn your head. You must have a Waves NX head tracker to use this feature.

You can use the instructions below to disable this feature if you do not want your camera to automatically activate when an audio device is connected.

Connect your headset or speakers.
Type Waves MaxxAudio in the Windows search box and launch the Waves MaxxAudio application.
Select WAVES Nx.
Turn off the Nx functionality by moving the highlighted slider to the left.
