Tiny Glade

Tiny Glade

NPC's
I have watched a lot of game play and about to give it a try but I would love to see NPC's, literally just sitting on the benches, walking in and out of buildings, following the paths we put down etc. Make it a feature you can turn on and off as, yes it probably could get annoying.

It doesn't even need to be very in depth as I know people make some really cool *complicated* builds, so even if you made it so that the NPC's just walked on the paths, would really add to it.

I think doing this would help the building process as (IN YOUR OWN MIND) you can build a house but give that house a story, perhaps the man living there is into gardening etc etc. Again, keep is so that there is no goal to the game.

What do you all think of this?

All I can think of is how any potential NPC character would navigate in an environment where anything said NPC would interact with can be generated at random. Take the doors created on walls by using the path tool. You can have very tiny doors or archways of any size. I guess if they don't fit then they won't interact with them. Or if they're already inside a structure the door would have to be resized until it can be passed through. And navigating "stairs"?

Perhaps the best way is to have them fit or scaled to the props the game already generates. I can only imagine the pathing logistics of automated NPCs doing whatever would be a monumental undertaking, and very difficult even to be practical if one can even begin to consider the almost unlimited scenarios that can be generated in the game's environment.

So maybe there could be an NPC designer studio portion of the game. If pathing and routine scripts can be implemented then maybe it can work. Otherwise, a predetermined pose selector might be an alternative, and you could move and rotate them like the (other) props.

I mean, it's okay to ask for something, but I don't think many people consider the 'how'. Then again, I'm not the dev. They would likely know what's possible or feasible.

No I completely agree, I just mean in a kind of way The Sims do it (though that is a little questionable don't get me wrong haha) pr cities skylines etc etc

Just something I think is possible, but just quite hard to pull off
I would be very happy if there were NPCs. When I look at my mini-city, after a while I feel like the neutron bomb fell and only sheep were immune ;-) The NPCs don't even have to do much, maybe you could add pathing just along, well the paths, so they could go from house to house...

Also, I'd welcome something like horses and cows grazing peacefully somewhere, which could be contained in a closed fence for example.

Then the whole thing seems a bit more alive, I always wonder who turns on the lights in the houses at night.

I want more animals...
I have no wish for humans or NPCs
NPC's! Please! And a few more animals would be nice.
Side note, I have no idea how y'all have been building these amazing buildings.
Mine just go wonky, flippy, and then fall apart. I must have a different game. 😭
As long as you could toggle it - I wouldn't object. For me, NPCs would ruin it. I LOVE that there's no people. I give each little cottage in my village a story with the architecture and the details. If I could leave the people turned off - and have it like it is - all good.

I really like the idea. They could be optional objects that you can place near building or walk on paths.
i really am for the npc option. i love this game but find myself not playing it often because i create these entire worlds that in the end just seem very empty and lonely, i wish i had small digital friends to keep me company in my glade and to create a nice place for them to live.

Yes, I would love NPCs as well. It defintely feels lonely after a while. They wouldn`t even have to do much. I imagine someone picking flowers, someone reading on a balcony, someone taking a swim etc.

Likely a lot of work. But I would buy that as an extension. :) (of course with an off/on switch for the purists)

Such a great game!

If they were going to be added, my guess is they would be static props with a little looping animation. Dynamic NPC navigation is very tricky, that's why the sheep and ducks just pop into the air when we edit things near them.
