How to get different chimneys?

I noticed their are two types of chimneys, a normal chimney and a pipe style chimney. Is their a reliable way to get the pipe chimney?

It changes to a pipe chimney when there's something above the chimney. You can use the arrow holes (the little square window) and use the pipe chimney to hide it.

From what I saw in YouTube videos and also managed to do myself, you can get the pipe chimney by placing it close to a window, then the normal chimney turns into a pipe chimney. I just can't remember if it must be a single window or also works with a double window.

I just found out you can also get the pipe chimney when you place regular chimneys on each side of the same wall :)
