[DEMO] - SteamDeck Test
Tested the day it was released Tiny Glade DEMO works on SteamDeck out of the box (No specific proton configuration).

It lacks controller support for now (I suppose it could come later when devs will have time to do this), but the Steam Deck base configuration allow you to play using the joysticks or trackpad for mouse pointer.
Bear in mind that you won't have controller input hints on the UI.

That being said, once you get the hang of it it's pretty easy to start creating and have fun.

You have to take in account that this is still a demo, but it's already nice that this works without any further configuration besides key mapping (Some games just don't even start sometimes on SteamDeck). But if you really want enhance your SteamDeck experience you can try to make your own control mapping template for it, although I would personnaly wait for the full version to come out and see if controller support has been implemented.

One last thing, but I don't think it really matters. Steam cloud doesn't seem to work, wich I guess it's normal since it's just the DEMO.

Some Steam Deck controls

Mouving mouse pointer:
  • Right Trackpad
  • Right Joystick

Zooming in : R1
Zooming out : L1

Rotating the Camera: Mantain L2 + Right Joystick or Right Trackpad

Moving the camera: Left Joystick

Select/Validate: Right Joystick click / Right Trackpad click

The rest you'll probably figure out playing the game.

I hope this helps, I really enjoy the game so far, I'm looking forward to the release.

Thank you for the test and feedback! 💚

Regarding Steam Cloud, does it not work for you at all? I've noticed that it sometimes just randomly errors out for some folks, but haven't found any pattern to it. Do other demos or games have the same issue for you? I do worry that it might affect the full version as well, since the developer-side configuration of Steam Cloud is... we just specify a folder - and if that sometimes works, and sometimes doesn't, then it's a bit puzzling.

Thank you for your response.
I just tried the following steps:
  • Installing on PC and trying to launch the game: Steam gave me the following info regarding cloud save "You played Tiny Glade Demo on "steamdeck" (today at 9:41PM), and that save is not yet in the cloud. (upload not started)" - Note that I did launch the game again on steamdeck tonight to see if cloud save would work, it didn't.
  • Playing on PC to create new save file: The save file was correctly uploaded from my PC
  • Playing on SteamDeck to check if downloading cloud saved file from PC works: Unfortunatly it doesn't :crying_yeti:

So PC cloud save seems to work fine no problem there. And to answer your question, I never had a problem with steam cloud for other games on my Steam Deck.
Could it be a save file root path issue in the Steam cloud configuration on your side ?

That's good data points, thank you so much!

I'll look into the configuration, but it might be something that we'll have to poke Valve about. I run Linux for development, and cloud saves work just fine here (Steam Deck just uses our regular Linux config, and stores saves where Valve recommends storing them 😅)

You’re welcome! Don’t hesitate to tell me if you change the configuration and if you want me to make another test.

Hey, I've checked the configuration, and it seemed fine (and matched what other Linux-native games do). I then did my own testing, changing the same save in sequence on my Steam Deck, my PC running Linux, and my PC running Windows. I've tried it a few times in different order, and encountered no issues.

I wonder if maybe Steam Cloud was just having a bad day. Do you still get the cloud errors?

Are you using Beta or Stable "System Update Channel" for your Steam Deck? Beta has a bug currently.

Stable: Yes
Beta: No
Main: No

If I go to properties and check Proton Experimental, that works.

I'm sorry, I'm not sure how to parse that. What is Main? What does "Yes" and "No" refer to here? And are you saying that the game doesn't or does work on the Stable System Update Channel without Proton?
ugafan Sep 19, 2024 @ 4:58pm
Sorry, the game launches correctly for me on Stable. No further actions are necessary to make it launch.

On the Beta and Main branches, it does not launch for me by default. But if I enable Proton Experimental, then it will work correctly.

Main is one of the advanced update channels. It can be enabled if you go to settings and then developer. It's sort of like the beta for the beta.

Ahhh, that's called Preview here :D

Okay, cool, thanks for confirming! Yeah, I've been in touch with Valve about the crashes, and hopefully they will fix Beta & Preview :)

Hello !

Sorry for the late reply, I tested the game cloud save on Steam Deck it's still the same issue. Since you said that you tried it on your side and it worked I wondered if uninstalling and installing the game again would work.
Once installed I had some hopes because in my game library, it said that the Steam cloud was synchronised for the game. So I thought it downloaded my last save (From my PC) just fine.
Turns out it's still the same save game I started with on my steam deck .... :crying_yeti:

I guess I would have to go on desktop mode and erase the save file manually on the SteamDeck and try again.

Thanks for trying it again! That's... just a bit bonk xD I've now tested it across my two PC running windows, one running Linux, and the Steam Deck (native - without Proton). Sometimes Steam pops up that cloud error if I switch between the machines too quickly, but then upon clicking "retry" it comes back to its senses. Not sure why it's being mean to you, but I'll certainly be on the lookout for more cloud issues <3
