He seriously risks being a townscaper but with something extra that is not enough to make a relaxing game of endless hours....
Let's hope so
It took me less than 10 minutes to get bored by it.
It was in fact really impressive, but absolutly no gameplay, nothing to do.
IF you add free plants, you can create beautiful dioramas instead of limiting yourself to closed areas of procedural gardens... Insert stationary cars with various models, boats, signs to place everywhere, statues.... Nothing.. They didn't insert anything.
Statues, bridges, tents, carts, bazaars, siege weapons, fence of various ways, mills, signs For buildings, stables etc....
Because if it stays as presented it equals townscaper, so shelf.
I can't speak for the developer, but everything I've seen about this game indicates that it's a chill, casual building game as well - they explicitly state in the FAQ that Townscaper is their main inspiration. I don't think you're going to see siege engines and jousting. Most of the updates I've seen have focused on different types of tweaks to the buildings and environment, and adding more detail to the way those tweaks interact.
They have said that they want to add things like more animals, water, and more plants, but that Tiny Glade will remain a building game. If you are hoping for some kind of medieval life sim with markets, festivals, and tournaments, that sounds cool but I don't think it's this game. I haven't seen anything to suggest that they're adding humans at all.
If townscaper has 96% positive reviews, it means that people are satisfied with playing little or nothing....
A wasted game, with endless potential as relaxing entertainment that goes untapped.
It would be like creating a Minecraft without adding blocks, levers, rails, dynamite and more. To make the experience more dynamic instead of keeping the usual 6 cubes of basic terrain.
This game has much more potential than Townscaper, also because you are not limited by the terrain already set by the game.... Just add scenarios to reuse.. Just think about adding 3 different types of statues, how many things can you do.. Build a avenue for the city and the castle, put statues on the edges of a bridge you could make them, a central square For the city, put them on the walls or on the edges of the castle....
This game is missing a button with about 50 medieval items to place in your diorama
A huge potential for this game, and while i love what they are going for, i hope they allow for a lot more creativity with how people play the game.
oh and i cant stress this enough, mod support. it keeps games alive, or atleast its a really really good crutch, and there will always be somebody who wants to mod a game like this. its a good investment of time, for reward of replayability.
Nobody wants to buy a relaxation game where after 2 hours you do the same things because you have no tools to do anything else.
Adding so many misused scenario objects * (exaggerating with the same pieces) would only bring good to the game and allow people to create their own worlds.... A nice set of assets for the graveyard, and places dark, could create enormous expectations even for those who want to recreate gothic and dark castles, from some soulslike game as entertainment.
If you're that easily bored in a sandbox with a simple premise, the game's not for you. It's not inherently flawed or without gameplay.
In fact this game here got recomendet to me because of similarity to it.
But of course Tiny Glade is way more indeph and i look foreward to it :D
I see Tiny Glade as being similar but with a bit more to play with, and I'm all right with that - it's nice to have a few things that are just for relaxation. I do hope it might be possible to save your favourite creations though, and perhaps go back to them and tweak them further. (I haven't looked into it so I don't know if a save feature has already been talked about.)
A kind of medieval life sim, as seems to be discussed here, might also be fun but I don't think it's going to be this game. :)
...This game seems to have much nicer controls that allow you to stay constantly creative.
