Crashes on Boot.
I'll get past the logo's, get to the first time the spinning loading icon in the bottom right pops up, and then it crashes right to desktop. No eroor message, no nothing.

Please run these files to make sure you have the support packages installed:
** C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Divinity II - Dragon Knight Saga\support\DirectX\Feb2007\DXSETUP.exe
** C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Divinity II - Dragon Knight Saga\support\VCRedist\VS80sp1-redist_x86-4053.exe
** C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Divinity II - Dragon Knight Saga\support\VCRedist\VS90sp1-redist_x86-9.0.30729.17.exe

There could be several causes for this issue.
Please try each of the following solutions:

- verify the integrity of game cache:
Library > right click on the game > select properties > click on local files tab > click on "verify integrity of game cache"

- uninstall and reinstall nvidia physx:
To do this, go to start > control panel > programs and features > rightclick on Nvidia Physx and select uninstall.
After that, install the latest physx software from NVIDIA: http://www.nvidia.co.uk/object/physx-9.12.0213-driver-uk.html

- the problem could be codec related (even if you can play the videos in windows):
• You can try to fix the codec issue with the following tool : http://www.softella.com/dsfm/index.en.htm. Run it and click on the troubleshoot tab. There you will find an option to restore codecs.
• Installing ac3 codec : http://ac3filter.net/
• Turning off playing of videos. To do this, go to the file %your installed directory%\divinity ii - dragon knight saga\data\globalswitches.xml and change the value PlayVideo="1" to PlayVideo="0” on the bottome line. Then save the file and try the game again
• Uninstall ffdshow software if you have it installed

None of these things worked, but i couldnt do the last one because the page does not exist at that address. Still cannot play the game :(

Here is a working link for the DirectShow Filter Manager[www.softella.com] (there is just an extra period at the end of the URL above). The AC3Filter link is fine, so I assume that is the one you meant.

The K-Lite Codec Pack comes with a 'codec tweak tool' which can repair codecs and disable filters, which a couple people in the Larian forum have mentioned using to fix problems. This tool is also available separately[www.codecguide.com] (I've never tried it).

The topics below (and the links they contain) may have some suggestions you have not tried yet.

Crashes in the first loading screen[www.larian.com]

My game just shuts down upon starting to play...[www.larian.com]

Divinity 2 won't play[www.larian.com]

The new link is still broken. Upon trying to click the download icon, it just brings you to another page that was up before. Both of the movies will run in the video folder, so im pretty sure its not a codec problem. And i don't even get to the main menu, nor do I get an error message. It just boots me back to desktop like i never even booted the game

Sorry, I didn't think to check the download link on the official site. Here is an alternate download site[www.free-codecs.com], though you are right about it not looking like a codec problem (presumably media players can handle some codec problems that a game might not).

Did you email support at Larian dot com? Include a link to this discussion.

Lemme try redownloading the whole thing. I hadn't wanted to (its gonna take forever), and I've verified the cache, but hell, whatever, ill give it a shot
Oarlock Nov 3, 2012 @ 7:28pm
Redownloading did not do anything.

@raze, directx d3D codecs and windows environment codecs are not the same thing. Videos could run in windows, but not work in div2 due to d3d codecs being corrupt. The softella tool usually fixes this (90% of cases).

http://www.softpedia.com/dyn-postdownload.php?p=16016&t=3&i=1

this link still works. Please try restoring the dx codecs via troubleshoot tab

Can you confirm you successfully installed the visual studio redistributables as well? All startup issues related to div2 are VS redists, nvidia physx or the dx codecs.

Some other possible causes other customers had:
- please make sure you do not have enlarged fonts set in windows (control panel > display). default setting is 100% (smaller)
- please make sure you do not have a 16-bit color resolution set. (right click on desktop > screen resolution > advanced settings > list all modes > set it to 32-bit color.
- disable crossfire or SLI

I've tried restoring the codecs (at least i think i did. I hit the button and nothing really seemed to happen?) This didn't fix it. I've also redone the VS redists, the physx and dx redist again. My fonts are smaller. I do not have SLI on and im in 32-bit color.

I still cannot get the game to run. I thought for a moment it could be having two monitors plugged in, but going down to just one did not remove the problem

Could you contact support@larian.com with a report.xml attached from our support tool please ? http://www.larian.com/hotfixes/supporttool/LPC_Divinity2.exe

My email provider is having issues with attachments atm, but I've created the report. The initial splash page had a pass for everything though. I'll send it As soon as I can.

Downloaded the latest Nvidia Physx... Worked ! for now...
Sedina Feb 15, 2014 @ 11:57am
None of these solutions worked for me.

I have tried:
- Delete and reinstall (obviously not going to work, and didn't)
- Download PhysX dll manually and regsvr32 it (did not work, and wouldn't even register)
- Rename video to keep it from playing (did nothing)
- Change the global setting to play NO videos at all (did not work)
- Run the various C++ redist updates linked above in this thread (as they are older than my current version, this failed)
- Run the program directly from the exe (same exact issue)
- Verify font size (it's 100%, small already)
- Verify color (32 bit of course)
- I am not using SLI / Crossfire

I do not see ANY error, just an immediate crash to desktop without anything logged.
I do not use an nVidia card; I use an AMD, so none of the nVidia specific fixes will mean anything to me.
I am using:
* Win7 Home Premium 64-Bit with SP1
* AMD Radeon HD 7900 Series
I have run their report and emailed it to them now.
