There could be several causes for this issue.
Please try each of the following solutions:
- verify the integrity of game cache:
Library > right click on the game > select properties > click on local files tab > click on "verify integrity of game cache"
- uninstall and reinstall nvidia physx:
To do this, go to start > control panel > programs and features > rightclick on Nvidia Physx and select uninstall.
After that, install the latest physx software from NVIDIA: http://www.nvidia.co.uk/object/physx-9.12.0213-driver-uk.html
- the problem could be codec related (even if you can play the videos in windows):
• You can try to fix the codec issue with the following tool : http://www.softella.com/dsfm/index.en.htm. Run it and click on the troubleshoot tab. There you will find an option to restore codecs.
• Installing ac3 codec : http://ac3filter.net/
• Turning off playing of videos. To do this, go to the file %your installed directory%\divinity ii - dragon knight saga\data\globalswitches.xml and change the value PlayVideo="1" to PlayVideo="0” on the bottome line. Then save the file and try the game again
• Uninstall ffdshow software if you have it installed
The K-Lite Codec Pack comes with a 'codec tweak tool' which can repair codecs and disable filters, which a couple people in the Larian forum have mentioned using to fix problems. This tool is also available separately[www.codecguide.com] (I've never tried it).
The topics below (and the links they contain) may have some suggestions you have not tried yet.

this link still works. Please try restoring the dx codecs via troubleshoot tab
Can you confirm you successfully installed the visual studio redistributables as well? All startup issues related to div2 are VS redists, nvidia physx or the dx codecs.
- please make sure you do not have enlarged fonts set in windows (control panel > display). default setting is 100% (smaller)
- please make sure you do not have a 16-bit color resolution set. (right click on desktop > screen resolution > advanced settings > list all modes > set it to 32-bit color.
- disable crossfire or SLI
I still cannot get the game to run. I thought for a moment it could be having two monitors plugged in, but going down to just one did not remove the problem
I have tried:
- Delete and reinstall (obviously not going to work, and didn't)
- Download PhysX dll manually and regsvr32 it (did not work, and wouldn't even register)
- Rename video to keep it from playing (did nothing)
- Change the global setting to play NO videos at all (did not work)
- Run the various C++ redist updates linked above in this thread (as they are older than my current version, this failed)
- Run the program directly from the exe (same exact issue)
- Verify font size (it's 100%, small already)
- Verify color (32 bit of course)
- I am not using SLI / Crossfire
I do not see ANY error, just an immediate crash to desktop without anything logged.
I do not use an nVidia card; I use an AMD, so none of the nVidia specific fixes will mean anything to me.
I am using:
* Win7 Home Premium 64-Bit with SP1
* AMD Radeon HD 7900 Series
I have run their report and emailed it to them now.
