Game won't start, I need help desperatly.

Ok, so i tried all these thing so far :

DELETING + INSTALL + W/E I can think of about PhysX, It's no the problem.
REINSTALLING Directx 9, 10, 11, 9C, W/E which others, won't work too.
REDOWNLOADING THE WHOLE GAME, Not working.
VERIFY INTEGRITY OF CACHE, Done 3 time......................
ADMIN MODE
COMPATIBILITY MODE
DELETING THE GAME WITH RAGE, AND DOWNLOAD AGAIN
RAGE (Almost worked I think....)
CRIED (Almost did. For real.)
INSTALING AC3Filter
SETTING PHYSX TO PROCESSOR (didn't even help)

I'm hopeless. The problem is, that when I boot it, the game let's me choose between Divinity II and Divinity II : Director's cut. None of them work btw. Then I click any of them, it "start", does a black screen, then crash. No loading, no movie, nothing. Just window trying to make it work ("thanks" window.) I can't find anything out of the forum, Please help. I'm about to cry, and I want to play that game so bad... Note that I got it from humblebundle, and added afterward to steam. Heeeelp

hey dude.. i made it work here! go to C:\~\SteamApps\common\divinity2_dev_cut\Data\Video and try to open the intro video.. if you can´t watch the video try to download the mega codec pack and install it.. and reinstall the PhysX (C:\~\SteamApps\common\divinity2_dev_cut\support\PhysX.
I did it and work here! sorry for my english.. uahauhau =P

If you rename the intro.wmv video, the game will skip playing it. That would probably be the easiest way to determine if that is the problem.


Did you try starting the game directly from the Divinity2.exe / Divinity2-debug.exe program files in the ..\divinity2_dev_cut\bin\ install folder?

Do you have large fonts set in Windows? Check Display in the Control Panel and make sure it is set to 100% (smaller).

Is your desktop set to 32 bit true colour (more than likely it is). You can check by right clicking on the desktop, selecting Screen resolution, advanced settings, list all modes (or in XP, right click the desktop, properties, settings). In the unlikely event it is set to 16 bit high colour, change it.

If you have crossfire or SLI you can try disabling it temporarily.


It sounds like you have tried a lot of the suggestions in the topics below, but perhaps not all...

Hi, Thanks for the reply guys, but concerning PhysX, I already tried everything, and I'm on window 7, I'll try the renaming in case of, but I don't think that's the problem.

I did try to open both Divinity 2 and divinity 2 debug, and none worked, and I did set my font set to 100%, nothing work yet. About Crossfire or SLI, I don't even know what it is so I'd be suprised to have any of them.

I'll try again with changing the name of intro.wmv, and I'll look those link, seem usefull. Thanks for the reply, I'll look at it.

UPDATE : Nope, Changed intro.wmv to intru.wmv, Still crashing at the exact same time.

Note : I heard there was a patch, but is it even for director's cut? if so, where can I find it?

I don't think there was a patch for the Developer's Cut version of the game, other than a hotfix[www.larian.com] to add an option to invert the Y axis in dragon form. With the retail release of the anthology, the version numbers listed in the bottom right corner of the main menu for the normal mode of D2:DC was 1.4.700.49 before the hotfix, and 1.4.700.56 afterwards (the Developer Mode version numbers are 1.4.700.47 and 1.4.700.57).

Try emailing [e-mail], with a description of the problem (and maybe a link to this discussion) and the report generated by this support tool[www.larian.com].

What are your system specs (graphics card, cpu, ram)? Could be something there thats unsupported.

I'm not sure how long the current response time is, but probably Monday/Tuesday, though unless an issue shows up in the report, I don't know if they would have any more suggestions than mentioned in the links above, or similar topics.

for the system specs, I got Nvidia gtx 460, which is (I think) 1-2go, and I got around 2 gb ram, but I got 2 more at the store right now, just need to go get em, cpu I don't know, but I believe everything is alright on that side, since Diablo 3, WoW, Guild wars 2, Left for dead 2, and similar game all worked all fine, with maximum graphic. Note that I had over 50 fps all time. No fps drop at all.

@Raze, This mean that there's no more thing to do? or you just can't figure anything else off forum? I tried for over 3 hour already and I'm getting bored of this game without even trying it yet...

I think the above suggestions and links cover the majority of suggestions that can help with crashes on startup. There may still be things to try, but at the moment I can't think of anything new...

I've got the same problem. Usually everything works so it's weird being on the other side of the fence on the forums.

Not impressed with this! I'm guessing its a win7 problem. It doesnt let me update the physx file either as it says the currently installed drivers are newer than the ones your trying to install.

All videos in the directory run fine by the way. I tried rename the intro one but same problem so i named it back to intro.

My problem, mostly, is that when the game start, it goes black, then it crashes with a window error, and won't do anything else but going back at desktop. Concerning PhysX, I managed to uninstall it through the control panel, then instal the "new" one which is like 1000 version behind but w/e, won't work. I guess I'll just have to wait till monday to get an answer from the developper, and I'll give you news about it.

@Vargas78, Not a Win7 issue, unless its a specific version. I have Windows 7 Home Premium and everythings fine.
