A ranger build would be a little easier later in the game, which I assume would be a negative for you (though I still found it fun, playing with a handicap to keep the game from getting too easy).
Later in the game (after a character level in the late teens, or so) you will be able to unlearn your skills, for a cost (which doubles each time you do so) and adjust your build. You can not redistribute stat points, but between skills, enchantments, equipment bonuses and maybe charms, you can change your build pretty effectively even late in the game.
In the original release of Divinity 2 I played a duel wielding warrior on normal difficulty, and in DKS played an archer on nightmare (I stopped distributing stat points after level 15, to keep things interesting, so could have easily switched to a warrior or mage build). I'm thinking of starting an unarmed warrior in D2:DC to play until the next alpha update for D:OS.
You may have figured a lot of this out yourself, but:
Anyone help a newb with Warrior build ... ???[www.larian.com]

Stat Point Distribution: What's the best way?[www.larian.com] (for a mage)
I actually ended up starting a new mage, as my Warrior tended to be die quite quickly despite just going Str/Vit (mostly Str) for stats in just the second area. Thinking of trying a spell-heavy mage with some priest stuff. Thanks again!
went dual weild to tier 10(to get rid of the downsides of dual weilding)
got two summon monsters to help draw aggro(you can have up to two summoned creatures at once)
fireball, heal, bleed, leach, and jump attack. along with whirlwind in case enemy groups ignore your summons and mob you, if they get too crazy, back flip out to a good distance and use some spells(your choice what you want.
Stats i used for this were spirit up to around 50 base, strength to 100, and vit with the rest of of the points left over.(at max level or during the flames of vengence start dlc). ton of fun and pretty effective against solo enemies and even groups, hard to kill you when with every hit you leach life(max it out its worth it), maxed healing spell that basicly gives you the power of deadpool, and summons to draw aggro. this build eats up mana though if you do it right so buy plenty of mana potions.
Forgot to add regen and as an optional some points into reflect. Makes you a bit harder to kill abd punishing to enemies who do attack you
Magic Missile, Fireball, Flamewall. Once you get to the mid to late game everything dies.
Open up with fireball for a large DPS AOE, then spam magic missile. If anyone gets close, flame wall. Rinse and repeat until everything is dead.
If it gets too boring I go melee sometimes to finish off anything half dead. In the early game you need to use a bow and pew pew due to mana shortages.
Warrior is too risky to play, even with good gear at this difficulty as enemies can kill you in a few hits.
When going for ranger, get Ranger Surprise and explosive Arrows as soon as you can. Splitting Arrows should also be level mostly as they can potentially one hit even some bosses at point blank.
