Developer's mode is the same as regular mode, but with some cheats enabled (F11 opens the cheat window, where you can enable god mode, eliminate spell cooldown, boost your characters' levels/stats/skills, morph into other creatures, teleport to various regions, including places normally outside the game world, open locked door/containers, give yourself equipment/gold/etc...).
You can spawn a limited selection of opponents, but one at a time (using hotkeys).

If you've played before good way to give yourself some extra cash and can be use to make game a little easier.

Also makes the game a little more crash-prone/save corruptable in my experience. :(

Many people have successfully played the original Ego Draconis release and the Dragon Knight Saga (D2:ED remastered plus the add-on) before the Developer's Cut was available, and people who prefer retail releases to download versions are still buying D2:ED and DKS.
In fact, the only levelling issue I recall coming up remotely commonly was a couple of difficulty spikes in particular areas in the original release, largely addressed by balancing changes in DKS.
