Divinity II: Developer's Cut

Divinity II: Developer's Cut

Low FPS and runs slowly
The FPS on this game is low on my laptop, about 20. And I can obviously feel that there are lags.

It seems pretty strange, because my laptop can run many newer games smoothly, like Dishonored or Tomb Raider, Borderlands 2 etc. Normally I'll have no problem getting a FPS about 40 with medium graphics configuration. But for Divinity II I've tried various configurations but that did not help.

The specs of my laptop are:

CPU: i7 2630QM
RAM: 8GB
Graphics Card: GT555M @ 1GB

BTW my laptop does have two graphics cards, an integrated Intel HD one and an NVidia one. But I'm pretty sure I didn't run the game using the integrated card.

So, is this normal? Is there anything I can do about it? Thanks alot.

Maybe the game is deafulting to the Intel GPU? I have a weaker laptop and I run the game at 720 mediums settings and 40fps, so you should be able to reach 60fps.
I remember hearing about that problem with other games.

try opening options tab and changing the FPS manually

Yes change the fps to the frame rate of your screen 60hz or 75hz...

The key of the the framerate is the quality of the shadow. I also have 20 fps when everything on the maximum settings. Now I have 40-60 fps because i just change the shadow's quality from 'very high' to 'high' ... Change of any other settings give me very minimal result of how fast the game is refresh the screen.

Thanks for your reply. However, I am getting 20fps even when everything is at medium setting.

I think not, because I've explicitly set the GPU to nVidia...

Try enabling Timeslice Shadow Update in the advanced Graphics options.

Check out the Steam discussion Very low fps in every graphics configuration, and the links there (you've already tried at least some of the suggestions).

I know this may seem trivial, but, one thing I would suggest is to make sure there are no other programs sapping your cpus vitality. I suggest optimizing your PC and removing any applications that suck away gaming power. There are many how to's on this, google your set up and see what comes up! It made a huge difference in my less powerful and older alienware M11x. Best regards!
