Try the 4GB Patch[www.ntcore.com] to increase the amount of virtual memory that the game (or any 32 bit application) can access in 64 bit versions of Windows.
Several people have reported that saving the game before using doors lowers the frequency of the hanging loading screen, and one said it always helped.
To try setting the game to run in a window, edit the file below in a text editor and change the one to a zero in Fullscreen="1".
C:\Users\<UserName>\AppData\Local\Divinity 2\Profile\graphicoptions.xml
You may need to set Windows Explorer to show hidden files and folders:

Game Loads for ever
I did that Lockstep thing and it still isn't working. is there another way to fix it without saving and closing the game every time i come across a door to another area?
I did that 4GB patch thing yesterday and its working perfectly now, thanks :D
Sorry, I fixed the link in my post.

Saving reduced the crashes in base game, but in expansion you definitely need 4GB patch. Just finished it and I'm glad I fixed it instead of giving up like with Beyond Divinity.
BTW thanks Raze for supportiing all these older games, your post on multiple forums were a great help when playing Divine Divinity and Divinity 2 this year.
Maybe it would be a good idea to make these suggestions on fixing loading screen a sticky post here on Steam (if possible), seeing as a lot of people struggle with it.
I've tried the 4G update, changing the setting in game, changing it to windowed mode, saving before zoning (it actually seems to happen more often when I do the save method).
