Did you try lowering the resolution? If the problem is DirectX switching resolutions, a lower game resolution may help, or setting the game and desktop resolutions to be the same.
You can also try lowering the graphics settings. A couple people had a problem with an earlier cutscene (when first meeting Talana), which turning Dynamic Geometry Distance Rendering to the lowest setting would fix. That particular setting probably wouldn't make a difference in an enclosed area, though.
Try hitting Esc to skip the videos, if they start, rather than letting them continue until the end.
You could also try renaming them: Endscene_English.wmv and
EXP_Intro_English.wmv in the install folder '..\SteamApps\common\divinity2_dev_cut\Data\Video'.
Try installing the AC3filter audio codec. That helped some people with a problem during this transition.

Try lowering the game resolution, and then set the game to run in windowed mode (unsupported), to see if that will let you get through the transition. To do so, edit the file below in a text editor and change the one to a zero in Fullscreen="1".
C:\Users\<UserName>\AppData\Local\Divinity 2\Profile\graphicoptions.xml
You may need to set Windows Explorer to show hidden files and folders:
http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/show-hidden-files-and-folders-in-windows-vista/
(covers Vista through Win 10)
You can also try disabling videos. To do so, edit the globalswitches.xml file in Notepad (or other text editor), in the Data subfolder of the main install folder, and change the one to a zero in the term PlayVideo="1".
I had no trouble the first time meeting Talana.
I'll try waiting longer, I haven't tried lowering resolution yet, the AC3filter thing or running it in windowed mode so I'll try those now thanks.

I've seen a couple of people recommend the Windows Borderless Gaming app, but I have not tried it.
If you check the Event Viewer, does that give an error code or 'Faulting Module' file name that might help identify the cause of the crash?
- click Start (or WinKey-R), then type "event viewer" into the search box. in Windows 10, 'event' should bring up 'View event logs'.
- after starting the Event Viewer, expand 'Windows Logs' in the left column and select 'Application'
- in the center column, look for a recent error (maybe sort by Date and Time) for the game
- check the information under the 'General' tab below the list of events, starting with "Faulting application name..."
Are you shutting down all non-essential programs (especially anti-virus) before starting the game? Firewalls have also caused conflicts.
Try verifying local files: in the Steam library, right click on the game and select Properties, switch to the Local Files tab and then click on the 'Verify Integrity of Game Cache...' button.
Try renaming the intro.wmv and loading.wmv videos in the '..\SteamApps\common\divinity2_dev_cut\Data\Video' folder. That may avoid a startup crash.
Try starting the game directly from the '..\divinity2_dev_cut\bin' folder: Divinity2.exe is the normal mode, while Divinity2-debug.exe has the optional 'Developer Mode' cheat menu. Right click the executable and run as administrator.
PhysX is one of the more common causes of crashing on startup; installing the latest version may help. You can also install the version that comes with the game (in the support folder); you may need to uninstall the current version and reboot first. If that gets the game to start, you should then be able to update to the latest version of PhysX.
You can also reinstall the other support packages in the install folder, MS VC and DirectX 9c (the latter does not come installed by default in Windows 7 or 8, so can be the problem after a new install; it is already included in Win 10, and can not be installed separately).
Check for updated drivers, and Windows updates in general.
Try the 4GB Patch[www.ntcore.com] to increase the amount of virtual memory that the game (or any 32 bit application) can access in 64 bit versions of Windows.
If that doesn't help, check out the suggestions and links in the discussions / topics below:
