From menu, the game "loads" into blackness

Did anyone have this happen or know a fix to it?
Anytime I reinstall this game it happens now.

ooh i just installed again, (have done a complete system rebuild since I last played) it detects my display best resolution and tries to use 4K instead of my system settings, for 2K.... LOL . This will be fun, will need a lot of coffee and my head is a bit leery with the distress of christmas already.

Hmmm - I get a really tiny text and menu now, so not the same issue as you did . But this smeegol tried this thread's suggestions to use compatability mode https://steamcommunity.com/app/219680/discussions/0/1795152172935345392/
Which may solve some people's issues, but not convinced it will help most, those steps did not help. I wasted some time there, and also wasted some time in the AMD Adrenaline settings. (Why don't games set their own graphics modes and ship with their own drivers anymore like they used to in the 80's?)

I got a playable game by

1. starting the game normally in fullscreen
   
2. clicking on the super tiny text (which was probably messed up by my AMD card sharpness settings ha ha)
   
3. Tap options
   
4. Tap graphics, then find the mode and click on the left arrow (which was tiny) 7 times.
   
5. click menus to get out of the game close it
   
6. and re-launch but choose windowed mode this time.

So I did notice that on the black screen I could see the menu still, very faintly, so it had hung, and force windowed mode sorted that out.

sometimes when I restart the game, it'll ACTUALLY LOAD THE ISLAND. so idk what that's about.

Ah. I did not play up until going onto the island and through the seasons and night cycles. I was assuming that re-loading a game would work - I wonder if it has broken for other people? So re-loads/resume are not working are they?

What?

It's like 1st time I start the game I click the island on the menu and it pretends to load then freezes after it fades to black. Then the next time it loads fine. It can't decide what it wants.

ah OK. so I turned off all compatibility settings - I also had a screen go black a few times, not sure what settings cause it ... but I eventually used windowed mode, changing the in game graphics size does not seem to change things at all , but I made it lower , like 1440x900 or something then pressed ALT-ENTER. I had a few more false starts with the "creating..." ending in black, while getting it to work, but when it worked, I just played without exiting. (do not press ESC, press F9 to save I learned)
Oh, and increase the mouse sensitivity a good deal too.

The game is not that long actually, and if you know what you are looking for, it's a 20 minute play, 1 hour tops of play if you are wanting to just explore. I was a good laugh, I saw stuff I don't recall seeing when I played years ago.

Escaping goals is the point of this game to me. Enjoying the atmosphere. Pressing space to sit my character down in a good spot as it creates atmosphere in the background while I do other things. Anti-goal games need to be FAR more common.

F9 creates a "postcard" which is not just a save point, but is an image with embedded metadata in plain sight - so it's also a shareable save file, if you send the image to a friend. A little down-arrow or triagle will appear at the bottom of the menu screen, to let you choose a save point.

I am almost thinking a list of games that are really without goals is what I was creating with the games list that I call "Just chilling". Although I think I kind of get sucked into trying to fill that list with anything that is relaxing, even if a game does have strategy and goal game mechanics. I need to do more review writing anyway now that it is holidays. Do shout if you still struggle to get the game running - although it might be a workaround - I'm pretty sure I could get the game running under virtualbox very easily if not for the time needed to set up steam on a virtual machine.

still loads into a freeze after the 1st time... and has to be task manager'd to death before starting again and working the 2nd time. Still not fixed, I see...

This has been my experience recently as well.

I had a black screen 1st time, and settled for windowed mode. I actually got more angry than necessary with my new AMD graphics card with more RAM in the card alone than my previous computer had, pah! Good software that keeps on working is surprisingly hard to build, expectations keep changing, I don't have the space to keep my old computers... to be fair, the missus would chuck them out anyway.

load it windowed and have task manager open. when it freezes to black screen the 1st time, kill it with task manager. Then load it again, and load the island again. It should work the 2nd time. ( wait until you see the expanse of water and island in the distance ). I have NO idea why it works exactly this way but it does. DONT fullscreen it until it loads fully the 2nd time. ( alt+enter, fast fullscreen )
