Tried using Windows Updates, tried using XP Compatibility Mode (both SP3 and SP2), tried running as Admin with all the various options listed above... I click past the Jay-Z video, and get to the menu where it says "loading..." and then I get the 'NBA 2K13 has stopped working..." window.

Hoping a fix comes down the pipe soon!

Exact same error I get.

for me the problem is ALWAYS STEAM. If i don't load steam before i run the game, it always crashes. Then when I run Steam, and play the game-- then it works.

I bought the game the other night, no issues at all, beautiful graphics when cranked all the way up. Go to play today and my monitor loses signal as if I unplugged it. I can alt+tab to desktop and my monitor "turns back on". I can hear the game running in the background, but can't see anything. Have tried numerous issues as it seems I am the only one with this exact problem. I can't even force the game to launch in windowed mode in order to trouble shoot from in the game.

Anyone have a similar issue? I have replaced cables and updated software, deleted local cache and redownloaded/reinstalled the over 7gigs, and nothing works. My computer is a beast and can play anything at max, plus everything is updated as it should be.

Anyone know of a work around?

The solution is disable the steam interface with game..in order to do this you need to launch game and during the intro press shift and tab to get to steam options on the game screen..in setting disable steam pop up .. try to do as quick as possible before game crashes..after doing this game may crash..simply restart game and if done correctly you should see no steam pop up and game will work ... goood luck ps. it has nothing to do with visual c++

This is frustrating.

I got mine working just fine for a few days and now when I try to play it crashes again after I press start after the opening credits.

I didn't change any of the settings from when it was working. :/

I tried all the suggestions in this thread with no help.

....So im talking to an actual 2k rep. He mentioned that there is a ".dll" error in my reg that may be crashing the game. I am barely computer literate, but about to give a go at a fix. If you know how to lookit all that code-ish stuff, might wanna take a look at yer registry and see if you have something similar going on...my error is called "ntdll.dll" and the supposed fix is here....

http://pcsupport.about.com/od/fixtheproblem/a/ntdlldll.htm

gonna get past that blasted Jay Z video dammitt......

Was contacted by a Valve rep who offered some help. For those of you that got the Microsoft Visual C++ error when first installing the game, you have to uninstall the old version of it through your control panel, and then reinstall the version found in the SteamApps folder for the game.

Here's how to get the game to work:

1. Go to control panel and uninstall Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 (I had two of these... I uninstalled both). If you have other years (2008, 2012), leave those alone.

2. Go to your Steam folder and find the folder for 2k13. Should be somewhere in Program Files>Steam>Steamapps>common>NBA2k13. Run vcrdist_x86.exe. It should install the correct version of C++ without any problems.

From there the game should run fine.

Was hoping this would work. Sadly not. I get the exact same crash as prior to doing the above.

What a jip! Damned thievery on 2K's side from launching a faulty game in the first place. I hope all people involved in launching such a crap, and their offspring for generations to come, will get their armpits infested with lice and the smell of rotten eggs.

I couldn't play the 2K12 for same reasons and had wasted 30 euros for steam version... I'm getting a cd this time.

I got it to work, weird, but it works...
Program Files > Steam > Steamapps > common > NBA2K13

Right Click on the nba2k13 exec file > properties > compatibility
check the run this program in compatibility box
have it check off as Windows 98 / Windows ME
then make sure u run it as administrator...

Hope this helps I got it to work with no crashing at all

Thanks bukwild. This has worked so far. Hopefully it can be patched though.
