Newbie tips
Hi guys can you give me any advice?
When I'm in the offense and I run towards the basket I keep missing :'(
Do I have to release the throw button just in time? Or is it random?
And when I try to defend I keep getting a foul because I keep pressing the defend button. How do you perform a good stealing move?

I am a total noob to basketball and only just bought this game - I have no idea how to play basketball or anything about the rules; however, I found that if you hold the 'X' button on the xbox controller, then your guy will just auto-shoot at the hoop thing.

I even scored from standing by my team's hoop - the ball flew down the entire court and straight into the opponent's hoop. Only managed to do it once in a game though - but hit the thing quite a few times from standing by my team's hoop.

I'm liking the fact that I can just press one button to pass and one button to shoot - regardless of who has the ball, or where they are standing. I just don't know how to play/understand the rules of basketball.

I set the gameplay to casual though, not sure if that makes it easier for me.

I'd also like to know how to get the ball of the other team - that bit is quite hard.

You kinda have to know basketball...
As for the buttons, you hold the shoot button until you reach the top of your jump, then release this. It's all timing, just like in real life. You must time your defense blocks, your jumps, your steal attempts.

For shooting, just do the shootaround mode for a long time, work on your timing.

For offense, you are one player, play your postion. If you're point guard, take it up the floor, run a play or not, get a pick, drive and then kick it out to shooters, etc. If you're a center, sit on the low post, or run into the paint when you tihnk you can get a pass from a teammate. (Remember you can ask for the ball with the pass button when you dont have the ball.)

For defense, defend your man. Hold the Left Trigger to enable on-ball defense, and dont attempt to steal or block unless you have it, or you may get a foul. Sometimes fouls are good.
Use the turbo on defense to help guard them, stay in front of them.

Really, it just takes time and practice like any sports game. You must learn your style.
And go over the control menu, check which button does what exactly.

Good luck!
(Feel free to ask me anything via thread or message.)
