Class Change
So when should you change characters classes? What are the advantages/disadvantages?

I'd also like to know this. I saw in the description it said the HP is halved but does it put you back to level 1 or just cut your HP in half?

-You go back to level 1 and halves your HP.
-You can also transfer spells that you learned from your last class to another class.
-You can actually gain more HP if you know what you are doing

So if you have a bad party you can correct it by respeccing your classes?

What are good ways to multiclass?

Also there is some weird ability that seems to exist at the end of each classes skills, is that some kind of special promotion?

The only real "Multi-classing" is between the magic classes, as they can retain at least some magic from groups they don't learn (For example, Psionic->Cleric will give you a Cleric with 3 spells in each Psionic- spell level you learned).

Class skills aren't transferred over, so most physical classes don't really benefit from multi-classing; The exception is that you could make use of the Warrior's very high HP growth to then change into a physical class to give you lots of HP quickly.

The skill at the end of each classes' end enables reincarnation; A mechanic where you essentially get downleveled to level 1, but get a permanent bonus to your base stats (Str, Faith, etc). You can do it up to 24(?) times per character, and by the end the character is maxed in every stat.

if this is anything like the Wizardry series, the best time to switch classes is when your spellcaster has learned all their top tier spells.
then you switch to another spellcasting class and do it again to eventually learn every spell in the game.

other characters switch class when they meet the minimum stat requiements for the advanced class.

feel free to disregard this comment if i'm wrong. it just looked like from what i could see that this game looks like a Wizardry clone, so i'm assuming it works the same way. .

This game can go on for at least a fair bit longer than when you'll reach level 13, especially compared to Wizardry, so this is quite viable. In no way will Clerics (this game's "Bishops") learn all their spells before Level 13 [Wizard/Devout] plus class-changed Level 13 [Wizard/Devout].

BUT you will wreck your spell book if you change recklessly. Each class has a maximum number of spells known per spell schools (it's on the magic screen in the parentheses). Fighters are worst, only one spell per level, and so you'll forget spells at random if you don't use the forget function first, Clerics have a max of four mage, four priest, and three psychic spells per level, only Summoners can ever retain summon spells.

The other disadvantage not mentioned is that accuracy growth continues growing with higher levels, so you don't want to change classes too late for characters ending at a warrior class.

Getting multiple characters with Level 7 Ragnarok (and its equivalent abilities in similar RPGs) is extremely powerful but that's probably a postgame consideration.

In my opinion, race in itself has a strong enough effect on character development that you might want more than one character to have a certain caster or support role (different HP and agility).

I did Fighter, Valkyrie, Samurai, Wizard, Priest, Thief, now at level 20 on average, the Valk and the Sam being lower and the Fighter being the highest. I was figuring I'd make my Priest a Bishop for the Wiz spells and to replace the lvl 5 Bishop that I only take out of reserves to identify items at a seemingly poor success rate. I figure my Wiz will probably either go Psion or Summoner, not sure. Not sure if I want to class change my Thief into a Ranger or a Ninja, I like being able to open chests without magic. Fighter will just go into whatever he has stats for, whenever/if he gets stats for them. And Valk and Sam are already "advanced" classes, so they'll probably stay as is? No idea if thats good or not, Im terrible at planning these things ahead of time, I just go with whatever sounds cool xD

Currently running a Warrior, Samurai, Priest, Wizard, Bishop, and Thief. Feeling pretty good about it.

I wonder if in the second one they have more front line classes? It feels in this game way more classes are for backline and not front one.

Hmm? By my count a little more than half are front row-viable classes, but it very often depends on their race. A Dwarf Priest is more comfortable in the front row than a Celestial Lord. There's also the matter that Warrior/Paladin/Valkyrie have by far the broadest equipment selection.

2 has more dedicated warrior classes than just Fighter, but also a lot more magicians.

well, i bought the game. what i'm confused by is the "forget spells" command.
one of the tutorial missions told me that each class has a maximum number of spells they can learn and i should "forget" the ones i'm not using, but how do i know when to "forget" a spell?

example, my priest has 4 spells in the level 1 slots. it shows a (4) on the side, which i'm guessing means the priest can only have 4 spells per level? do i need to "forget" one in order to learn more?

no forget spell is used for classes that can only learn like 2 or 3 spells per lv so you can forget ones you wont use and on lv up learn something else in that spot. like i forgot any buffing spells on Valkryie and kept doing that till she only knew healing spells in her 2 slots per lv.
*edit* oh and the (4) means you have 4 per lv. *edit 2 fix* really shouldn't type stuff while sleepy

The Mage, Priest, and Psion spell schools only have four spells per level each, Clerics, Mages, Priests, and Psions themselves don't need to worry (for their own spell schools). Unless of course they're changing to another class.

Go into your Magic menu and highlight the spell level for your character's spell school. You can press the confirm button to look at and highlight the description of each spell. When your cursor is hovering on the spell, a prompt should appear giving you a button to press to forget the spell (according to the stickied topic it's the A key by default).

so, if i have a priest and the priest knows all 4 spells of every level and then change to a valkyrie which has a max of 2 spells per level, does the valkyrie randomly lose 2 spells from each level? and using the "forget" command is a way to control which spells i get to keep?

Before you class change you need to go and choose which two spells each level you wish to keep.

If you do not, the game will randomly choose for you when you class change.
