Proton Guide For Improved Steam Deck Performance
Using Proton For Improved Steam Deck Performance:

TL;DR: Try installing GE-Proton7-51.

You can also just try lowering the amount of snow in the Video Options if Sunset Act 3 is giving you slowdowns.

I've had some help with testing on Steam Deck and creating the following guide for running First Cut using the best configuration for Proton:

1. Browse to First Cut: Samurai Duel from your Steam Deck Library.

2. On the opposite side from the play button, click the cog icon to open the menu.

3. Select Properties then Compatibility. Make sure "Force the use of specific Steam Play Compatibility Tools" is ticked.
You should have some options here: some are better than others. However, GE-Proton7-51 has performed the best in our testing so far. Using our test steam deck, set to factory settings, we were able to maintain a steady 60fps with occasional 2-3fps dips during busy fighting scenes in certain areas even with the in-game 'internal resolution' setting cranked up to 5. We recommend using a slightly lower 'internal resolution' to ensure smoother gameplay.

4. GE-Proton is an advanced developer build of Proton, that has extra feature and patches. These are not supplied by Valve directly however.

5. Boot the Steam Deck into Desktop mode by pressing the steam button - power - switch to desktop. Once there, open the discover store and search for 'ProtonUP-QT'. This is a widely used tool and is considered safe within the Linux community.

6. Click on install and wait for it to finish, then double click anywhere on the ProtonUP-QT tile that doesn't have a button. This should take you to the launch page. Launch ProtonUP-QT.

7. Once the program opens you should see all your current installed proton versions. At the bottom left, click 'add version', select GE-Proton under 'compatibility tool', and click on 'version'. Browse to GE-Proton 7-51 and click 'install'. (Feel free to experiment with different versions should you have the inclination and let us know if you think you've found a better version).

8. Once the installation is finished you can reset your Steam Deck.

9. Now browse back to compatibility tools as outlined at the start of this guide and select 'GE-PROTON 7-51' under "Force the use of specific Steam Play Compatibility Tools".

You can start the game now. We'll be constantly working on ways to improve your experience with First Cut and your feedback is valuable. Thank you.

Please note that while ProtonUP-QT is considered to be safe and an essential tool by many steam deck owners: Night Eyes Interactive is in no way affiliated with them and will not be held liable for any misfortune, unlikely though it may be.

I just wanna say that I played the original on Itch.io and I loved it. I was super excited for the new release and it was, 8.99. That was kind of disappointing but when I bought it, It was (somewhat) worth it. The combat is difficult, rage inducing, and fun. There are so many different factions and customization options. And this really feels like a 2D dark souls (Difficulty wise). I do wish it wasn't 8.99 but instead 7.99 just because that feels more fitting but that really doesn't matter considering the game is dope.

Really? You're making a big deal out of $1? If $1 is such a big deal, you have bigger issues you need to work out before you buy video games, no offense.

I don't understand what you mean. I just think it should be a dollar less. I didn't even make a big deal out of it so idk what you're on about. I actually love the game and don't regret the purchase.
