[360 controller bug] unable to finish Chapter 1

In the first chapter ("The Metro") after dropping the briefcase off at the dumpster, the crazy bum appears and says something like "Who's there? I can see you!" then comes at you with a bat. Punch the bum, pick up the bat... now what? Can't leave the area, can't kill the bum (he just keeps getting up and you can't do a ground kill)... I even tried letting the bum kill me.

What's really interesting is sometimes if I throw the bat away the bum will grab it and then proceed to run THROUGH THE WALLS of the building and off the map.

Anyone else, or just me?

EDIT: this seems to be related to activating XBOX 360 controller support. As soon as I removed the "xbox2" file I was able to do a ground kill and finish the chapter.

EDIT 2: apparently when this happens the A button is no longer bound to ground kill but the right shoulder button is.

I just had the exact same thing happen to me! Right down to the dude running through the walls! I was just trying out my 360 pad and started from the beginning and that happened. Also, yesterday I was doing Chapter 8 and at the end, there was a phone or something on the floor in this hallway but I couldn't pick it up, couldn't end the level. I ran around for like 10 minutes trying to figure it out and then just quit the game, I literally couldn't proceed past Chapter 8 and now I can't even get past that guy to end Chapter 1.

Very weird, everything was fine until yesterday, I haven't had a lot of time with the game yet but had logged a couple hours, no problems before.

Thanks for replying - I was also using the 360 controller when I experienced the bug. I tried turning off controller support (by deleting the xbox2 file) and the problem went away. I think I'll wait until they get the controller issues ironed out before playing the game, much more fun with a game pad. :)

Will try that now, although when I had the similar problem with Chapter 8 I was using m/kb.

edit-Tried it again, still with the controller, and now it's fine, go figure. This game is like STALKER, the early bugs give it character! :D

Still more info... I read all the comments in the 360 controller testing thread and someone pointed out that in the chapter 1 scenario I mentioned in my original post the ground kill button actually gets remapped to the right shoulder button... tried it and was able to play through it with the controller... weird. Oh well, at least now I can keep playing . :)
