If you get an error about OpenAL at that time, right-click on game in library -> Properties -> Local files -> Browse local files -> _CommonRedist -> OpenAL -> 2.0.7.0 -> oalinst.exe.
This is a different issue.
If you have NVIDIA Optimus or anything that switches between integrated and dedicated graphics, make sure the game runs on the dedicated graphics.
If you haven't or that didn't help, update your graphics driver and try again, it will probably solve the problem.
If you already have latest graphics driver or that didn't work, upload the file "C:\Users\<username>\Documents\My Games\HotlineMiami\debug.log" on http://pastebin.com/ or something.
It contains information on what happens when you launch Updated version and could help track down the problem.
And the offered solution don't work
This sucks. I have a decent graphics card, processor & enough RAM to run this POS game. Why wont it work!?
Others before have reported older Intel integrated graphics not to support OpenGL 2.1 (the required version for Updated). Sorry for you but you'll have to stick with Original or get a more recent graphics card. But you may want to verify you DO have the latest graphics available (I know I've had troubles finding the latest for my own Intel graphics). Use Intel Driver Update Utility[www.intel.com] ;)
EDIT: Didn't see the community part. Then I suspect it's an issue with the Steam overlay not properly injecting into the game, and once again a graphics driver issue. I have no solution if updating does not work, you'll have to disable the overlay.
Upload debug.log somewhere please so I can have a look :)
Furthermore if you change the default processor to permenantly identify that launch file it should work.
Im running on Nvidia Geforce Mobile
