Not launching
When I launch Hotline Miami, the launcher shows up to show what settings I am going to play in. I have the updated version checked. I click start and it won't launch, it doesn't even say I am even playing it. Only when I have the launcher up. I tried verifying game cache but that didn't work. Please help quick! :)

Did you ever figure it out? I have the same issue.

My game starts up but it loads for a total of three cassette tapes, freezes, and crashes.

Right-click on the game in your library -> Properties -> Local files -> Browse local files -> manually run "HotlineGL.exe" (it's the Updated version executable). If is launches successfully, try to exit and run the launcher again, see if the problem persists or not.
If you get an error about OpenAL at that time, right-click on game in library -> Properties -> Local files -> Browse local files -> _CommonRedist -> OpenAL -> 2.0.7.0 -> oalinst.exe.

This is a different issue.

If you have NVIDIA Optimus or anything that switches between integrated and dedicated graphics, make sure the game runs on the dedicated graphics.

If you haven't or that didn't help, update your graphics driver and try again, it will probably solve the problem.

If you already have latest graphics driver or that didn't work, upload the file "C:\Users\<username>\Documents\My Games\HotlineMiami\debug.log" on http://pastebin.com/ or something.

It contains information on what happens when you launch Updated version and could help track down the problem.

I have the same problems as the first two people in the thread. Yet however if I start in Orginal mode it does work. But in The Updated version it just doesn't launch

And the offered solution don't work

Same issue. Up to date graphics. Debug.log is blank. I run the game, see the devolver logo, and it crashes. Disabling steam community fixes it, but that's hardly a solution. Intel integrated gfx.

I can't even see the developer logo. I get sound & flashes of pink on my screen, but nothing else. I tried running the original version & I got to start the game, but the screen flickered like crazy!

This sucks. I have a decent graphics card, processor & enough RAM to run this POS game. Why wont it work!?

Here is a link to a pastebin with my debug.log http://pastebin.com/e61BwzGb

See these lines? Mean your graphics driver cannot handle OpenGL to its full extent. Update your graphics driver :)

Others before have reported older Intel integrated graphics not to support OpenGL 2.1 (the required version for Updated). Sorry for you but you'll have to stick with Original or get a more recent graphics card. But you may want to verify you DO have the latest graphics available (I know I've had troubles finding the latest for my own Intel graphics). Use Intel Driver Update Utility[www.intel.com] ;)

EDIT: Didn't see the community part. Then I suspect it's an issue with the Steam overlay not properly injecting into the game, and once again a graphics driver issue. I have no solution if updating does not work, you'll have to disable the overlay.

Your graphics driver do no support OpenGL 2.1. Are you sure you do have latest graphics driver?

Thanks Skymirrh! The first method worked, by going to Properties -> Local files -> Browse local files -> _CommonRedist -> OpenAL -> 2.0.7.0 -> oalinst.exe. :) Thanks so much!

So if anyone is still having trouble I figured out that I had to right click the GL file and choose my graphics card to run off of like Skymirrh said it doesn't run off of both, so right click run with graphics processor then choose.

Furthermore if you change the default processor to permenantly identify that launch file it should work.

Im running on Nvidia Geforce Mobile

Well, I don't know exactly which one I have. But I tryed to run it again in the Original version and it runs smoothly there. So I am gonna stick with that for now. Thanks for your help anyways,

Thing is, you miss out on all those things that the Updated has better than the Original... My advice would be to upgrade your graphics driver. It can only do you good anyway, not only with Hotline but overall :)
