Hotline Miami - The Boss Achievement

Trying to beat all the achievement in the game but cannot unlock The Boss one. I was playng updated version where the riddle was already solved but tha achievement never came.
I've tried to change the Saves.dat file - 46th line from 0 to 1 and vice versa but, apparently, this file belongs to the original version as changes do absolutely nothing.
Is there a legal way to unlock the achievement? Please, do not recommend SAM - it is a foul play.
My OS - Windows 7x64

Honestly, SAM is just the way to go. I don't see why you don't want to use it, as long as you don't cheat with VAC protected games there is literally no problem. I've used it multiple times for Hotline Miami to reset my achievements so as to do them again.

If you still insist on not using SAM then you need to download HxD[mh-nexus.de] (or any hex editor) and open the file "C:\Users\<username>\Documents\My Games\HotlineMiami\SaveData.sav" with it (make a backup before: if you mess up you'll lose your save file).

You should see the save file with the list of your scores, which ends like this:

(a lot of scores).83093.72201.1....saveversion.dat

The "1" after your last score says you solved the puzzle. Place your cursor in front of it and insert a "0", then save. You should now be able to solve the puzzle again.

I have the same problem but I have win 7 and I don't find the location of the file =S

You need to go on a level after you have completed the puzzle and kill an enemy. Killing an enemy confirms the achievements for some reason.

It's "C:\Users\<username>\Documents\My Games\HotlineMiami\SaveData.sav" for the Updated version.

I change the number but the only thing that happens is "Hotlinemiami.exe stoped working" =/

That's because you didn't follow the instructions properly and messed up the save file. Please use an hex editor AND DO NOT MODIFY THE FILE SIZE. If you don't know what you're doing, just use Steam Achievement Manager ;)

It worked now¡ I was changing the file size by accident x)
