How to Reset/Delete Hotline Miami Progress
Plz help, I played Hotline Miami a long time ago and I recently installed it on my new computer to play through it again. And I really wanted to start fresh without any masks or weapons already unlocked and without any levels already beaten with whatever grade. I tried reseting my save data but since I'm a complete moron when it comes to computers, I've been having trouble so if anyone has any advice, I would greatly appreciate it.

Also I'm not sure if this is neccessary but my computer's OS Name is

Microsoft Windows Embedded 8.1 Industry Pro

How do I reset my save file?
  • Right-click on the game in the library -> Properties -> Updates -> disable Steam Cloud by unticking the box.
  • Navigate to "C:\Users\<username>\Documents\My Games\HotlineMiami" and rename "SaveData.sav" to "SaveData.sav.bak" or something else of your choice (this way, you'll have a backup just in case).
  • Play! A new save file will be created automatically.
  • (Optional) If you wish, you can enable Steam Cloud again after having created a new save. Beware: this new save will overwrite the old save upon synchronization.

Hey thanks for the help, I've done stuff similar to this while trying to delete my save but I'm not sure if I've done this exactly so I'm going to try it out. But as I said before I'm a complete idiot when it comes to computers technology so I kinda need to know how I would navigate to "C:\Users\<username>\Documents\My Games\HotlineMiami". I understand how ridicoulously stupid this question is, but the way I've always located files in the past hasn't been working so I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong.

Open File Explorer, click on Computer in the left panel, and from there follow the folders as described (e.g. the first one in the path is "C:\:", so you click on that, then you click on "Users", etc.). When looking for the folder named "<username">, replace with your actual Windows username (e.g. if your Windows username is "Sam", then you're looking for a folder named "Sam").

Oh my gosh, I just realized that I've been something really wrong, whenever I would get to files I would select a wrong file along the way because I renamed one file almost the exact same thing as another. Yeah that completely went over my head. But yeah IT WORKED! Thanks so much for the intructions and patience, I'm like a teen with the tech savy of a grandparent so obviously its not very easy to help me. Thanks again :D
