If you're lucky, then it's simply because your .NET framework is corrupted: you must reinstall the dependencies. Right-click on game in library -> Properties -> Local files -> Browse local files -> _CommonRedist -> There are 3 folders:
- DirectX
- OpenAL
- vcredist
In DirectX there is DXSETUP.exe, in OpenAL there is oalinst.exe, and in vcredist there are vcredist_x64.exe and vcredist_x86.exe. You need to install all ".exe" files., then try again and see if it works. If you're a bit less lucky, it's a problem with another application messing with the game files. If you have any application that monitors other programs (antivirus, firewalls, etc.), such as Bit Defender, Avast, etc., try to disable the application temporarily. If it fixes the issue, add "HotlineGL.exe "to the program's whitelist.
If you're not lucky at all, it didn't fix the problem. This is a rare issue on non-English Windows, and I don't know how to fix it. Fortunately, there is a workaround that will let you play the game even without the launcher:
- Go to "C:\Users\<username\Documents\My Games\"
- Create a new folder named "HotlineMiami" (no space) if it's not already there
- In that folder, create a new text file, and rename it to "hotline.cfg"
- Open the file using Notepad and copy/paste the following:
- Change "width=1920" and "height=1080" to your resolution
- (Optional) Change "language=0" (English) to the value of your choice:
- French
- Brazilian Portuguese
- Spanish
- Russian
- German
- Polish
- Japanese
- Save file
Example in this picture: link[i.imgur.com].You need everything EXACTLY the same, in particular file must be "hotline.cfg" and not "hotline.cfg.txt" (make sure Windows displays file extensions to check file type).
Then try you can manually launch the game: right-click on the game in your library -> Properties -> Local files -> Browse local files -> launch HotlineGL.exe. Make a shortcut to "HotlineGL.exe" if you want, it will be easier :)
