[SPOILERS] Question about Richter, the bald headed guy with the rat mask.
As far as the first game goes, is Ritcher actually supposed to be strangled to death in the police station prison cell in HM1?
I know as far as the lore goes, his life was spared and that's why we see him in HM2, but was that the original intention of the developer, to keep him alive? Jacket seems to have really wanted to kill him, and if he did want to show mercy - he wouldn't have jumped on him to strangle him right? Was it a different animation in the Game Maker version (Original engine)?
Just asking because I was wondering if Richter's survival was retcon'd in for the sequel or if this was the plans of dennaton from the beginning to leave some loose ends like the photograph jacket throws off the balcony at the end, and beard's appearence in every store and being replaced by richter while jacket goes crazy. It's a very good plot, and I'm trying to understand if both games' plots were pre-meditated or if dennaton just got REALLY creative with making the second game relate to the first... regardless it's amazing writing altogether, that is for certain.

You are not forced to kill Richter, you can leave the police station without killing him (IIRC you can just injure him and leave). So I guess it just means Jacket allows him to live in the "canon story".

Doing a Hideo Kojima on us, huh? like how if you surrender in the torture section in Metal Gear Solid 1, Meryl dies and the story continues - but according to canon, snake resists the torture and Meryl lives, suggesting the real snakey boy is the chads who munted their thumbs absolutely SMASHIN' that circle button.

bloody oath mate.

Jacket only hates russians it seems. He kills people in the metro station no problem but he pukes after he kills the "innocent" homeless man. He also saves the hooker from the first fatty encounter and in the second game we find out that he used to be an elite soldier. So he's probably just a patriot who is clearing his country of invaders and traitors (government officials who allow it and the police officers who serve them), not just a mindless maniac.

I've played both games, so dont worry about spoilers with me.

>patriot clearing his country of invaders
that would be jake, jake has no problem with shooting russians, and 50 blessings decides to kill him off if he survives his last job, because he's a little too enthusiastic for the 50 blessings to stay covert if he's ratting on about how he kills russians - he would probably talk if caught by cops.

Everyone else is either brainwashed or convinced by fear of the 50 blessings into doing the massacres, as evident by the russian mafia dude in the sauna saying "we tried to get them to talk, none of them broke" when the journalist dude is asking questions about the masked murderers. Most don't even know why they're doing the killings anymore.

Also, as for jacket - jacket is probably not a racist / nationalist, but more likely a man dealing with emotions. Fear of suffering consequences for not answering the phone calls, A lust for revenge after his girlfriend is killed. A confusion as to where the phone calls are coming from, and a desperation to put an end to it all - he finally lets go of beard after killing the mafia boss, by tossing the photograph taken in hawaii off the balcony. He probably believed he put an end to it all, the phone calls, the encounters with masked spirits, the russians who he believed were responsible for the killing of beard, and the end of his crimes - by handing himself in.

Idk, just a theory - but jake seems more like the "russian-hating happy-killer" to me. Jacket seems more like just a good man gone bad due to his circumstances.

But then again, i think its implied he joined 50 blessings because biker in his revelation says the janitors of 50 blessings pressure their members into the killings, and that people who sign up for 50 blessings say that they need to do everything for the cause, or something like that.
I'll have to look it up, see if jacket was a member.

Jake is just a racist redneck hick. He's as shallow and stupid as one can get. Jacket is far different from him. He joined the military, got chosen to the elite forces and served until he was wounded fighting against russians in a series of suicide missions. His hatred for russians and love for his country can't be denied. I doubt he'd be coping with the whole nuke that killed beard ordeal very well too. Although it probably escalated to revenge after richter busted into his house because the only leads he had were going further into the russian mafia. Jacket is a good man gone bad but I doubt he's forced into a lot of things unlike, say, richter. So I think his patriotism was his motivation and he didn't really need much of a reason to kill russians who are invading his country.

I think 50 blessings viewed jacket as the perfect member until he started compromising his professionality (by rescuing a hooker and things like that)

Thats quite the perspective, makes a lot of sense - and no i definitely agree with you, especially on the last bit about jacket being the perfect member up to a point.
