Way to transfer save files?
I was looking at some of the posts here but none are recent. I was playing hotline miami on my macbook a while back and was planning to replay it on my PC. Realized cloud sync wasn't enabled on the original game and my pc is running the updated version. I tried to move my mac file over and it worked when I played it once on my desktop but nothing seems to have worked.

Anyone know anything that could help me fix this issue? I enjoy the game but since I already hunted for the masks and puzzle pieces I preferred to not redo EVERYTHING over just play for the story.

Hi!

https://hotlinemiami.fandom.com/wiki/Save_File

I'd suggest just looking through this wiki and if you have any more specific questions feel free to ask :)

From the FAQ:
Where are the save files?
There are two distinct save files, one for the Original version and one for the Updated version.
  • Original:
    • Windows: "saves.dat" in the game's folder (can be located by right-clicking on the game in your library -> Properties -> Local files -> Browse local files).
    • Mac: "<home>/Library/Application Support/Hotline Miami/saves.dat"

  • Updated:
    • Windows: "C:\Users\<username>\Documents\My Games\HotlineMiami\SaveData.sav"
    • Mac: "<home>/Library/Application Support/Hotline Miami/SaveData.sav"
    • Linux (xdg): "XDG_DATA_HOME/Hotline Miami/SaveData.sav"
    • Linux (others): "~/.local/share/Hotline Miami/SaveData.sav"
One thing to note: when you start Updated, if an Original save file exists but no Updated save file exists, the game will create a new Updated save file converted from the Original save.

I think it did this and when I tried to go on original again it messed up. I accidentally deleted the updated file and that's why I was a little lost. Tried launching original again to make the updated file and it gave me an error notice.
