is jacket an actual dev name for jacket or just a fan base created name i really don't know any more

Jacket is never named officially in the game. It's a name the fans gave to the main character due to its recognizable jacket, and it just caught on.

His name started out as a fan nickname due to his letterman jacket. Dennis Wedin took up using the name in various interviews, and in Hotline Miami 2 all assets related to him refer to him as Jacket (HM1 assets call him "P" or "Player").

Personally I believe his real name is Richard since each mask a character owns is named after them and the Richard mask is the one given to Jacket.

It isn't the official name its just a fan name and they just called him that in the editor because then they wouldn't have anything else to call him.
