Stuck on loading missions

Hi everyone still playing this game. Recently I bought a new PC and felt nostalgic and installed soviet assault.

The game install fine and launches fine eventhough the launcher is in chinese.
However, whenever I launch a mission be it the first campaign mission or the tutorial, I get stuck at the loading screen.
The music plays and/or the dialog can be heard but I'm stuck at that first loading image.

I let it run 30 minutes even though it should be doen in a few seconds on my new setup but it still sticks to that first loading image.

Any ideas as to what the issue could be?

If you know how try running in compatibility mode with windows 7 and that should fix the problem. I was running on a newer system and that fixed this issue for me. Dm me if you need and more help.

Unfortunately that didn't work either. I did try it in XP SP3 too but that also didn't work.

The options.ini edits also do not work for me.

You can try running as administrator and also try all of the compatibility modes as well. If that doesn't work try, if you have it to uninstall it all and only install and run soviet assault as that is the only other thing I can think of.

Hi. Sorry for bad-ass necro, but recently I have tried to play the game and encountered the same problem. Whenever I try to load into a level, no matter if it's single-player or multiplayer, or even just simply exiting the game - it just stucks on that loading screen and doesn't respond at all. Alt-TAB'ing works only partially in that case, activating other apps behind the game's window.

Any ways to fix it? I've got a very powerful laptop with Win 11 on it. Compatibility tweaks didn't do a thing, neither did "launch as administrator" option. Switching between DX9 and DX10 seems to do nothing, so I don't know what else I can do.

I read on the gog forums that it's a issue with the game not working with x ammount of cores. You need to deactivate a bunch of your cores to run the game. Sounds like a hassle, not sure why it can't be fixed...well I guess since the game is pulled from the stores there is no active support, but meh. Loved this game and it worked on my former pc still, also windows 10, now it won't run, getting stuck on loading after it says "press a key to continue".

Unzip the contents and Copy/Paste the files to your install location for the game.

In the install location of your game right click "wic.exe" and select properties. Click the compatibility tab. Check the box that says "Run this program in compatibility mode for:" and select "Windows98/ME"

Navigate to Documents>World in Conflict and Locate "Game Options.txt" on your PC. Open that and scroll down to the bottom and change "myDX10Flag 0" to "myDX10Flag 1"

Right click Game Options.txt and select properties. Check the box to make the file read only. Click Apply. Then click OK.

If it still doesnt work try downloading this, Unzip the contents, then Copy/Paste into your game install location.

(Should be the same files as the above link but chrome does not like to download this directly by just clicking the link. You must right click the link address and select "Copy link address" and then paste into the browser. Otherwise chrome will open a tab and then immediately close it without downloading anything.)

Also you need to download something called Large Address Aware and target the wic.exe and apply it to fix crashes later on in the game.
