Crashes on startup after update

Game is currently unplayble for me. When I try to start the game it constantly crashes. This is new for me as it worked fine before. Any ideas?

oh, and my right stick now only works when dragging the map top-left and bottom-right, no other directions work.

I cant even get into the game. Steam shows: "Preparing to launch". but the game never shows..

And I don't have a folder yet, it seems the game just won't even start at all. I tried reinstalling.

no, there is no such file.

I tried reinstalling the game twice, I reinstalled my drivers, I tried the distributables but all said they were installed correctly.
the game shows up in the taskbar and then disappears right away

Can you try running the game in administrator mode and check if a log file gets created?

What happens if you run the game .exe through Steam directly? Do this:

1) (optional; only if you have a second monitor) Open Task Manager, or if you have it, Process Explorer, and put it on your second monitor. This way you can watch what happens.
2) Right-click Mercenary Kings in Steam, and hit Properties, then click Properties. In the Properties dialog, click the Local Files tab, and then click Browse Local Files...
3) In the Windows Explorer window that pops up, double-click MercenaryKings.exe.
