DLC wall encounters compendium for Lore
Hello,

I wanted to make this post to collect and organize all the wall encounters in the DLC. What I mean by wall encounters is the caves that have the NPCs you can talk to, or the PCs that have a report or message on them. For example:

"Day 586, something something happened.....etc"

Each floor has at least one of these encounters from what I can tell, and they all add some worldbuilding and lore to the events of the game and what happened. So I thought it'd be great if we could collect all this text into a single post and make more sense of what happened. I've played like 5-6 runs and seen a different one almost every time, so there's a bunch of them in this DLC.

If you're interested, write down the text you read in these encounters down below, whether it's from NPC conversation or from text in the PCs. I'll review the comments and copy them all in this post. Especially for the ones involving days, I'll organize them according to the date written.

Appreciate your cooperation on this if you do participate.

Blue computer:

Expedition log, day 345
The old maps didn't lie, we managed to get to the surface using the marked path. It's still hard to believe that our ancestors once made this arduous journey, but in the opposite direction

Expedition log. Day 346
We were expecting to encounter Shiva, but no one was ready for this.
Yes, he really cannot approach the Wall, but this does not concern his Zyrex.
We lost a third of the team in the first attack.

Expedition log. Day 349
There is a rhythm in the Zyrex attacks. We had to use the last minisphere to strengthen the outpost. The search for the Ark is delayed.

Expedition log. Day 356
We've managed to build an efficient defense system around the outpost, but staying outside the perimeter for too long is certain death. This means that the main goal of the expedition cannot be achieved if we do not come up with something.

Expedition log. Day 412
We had no choice but to send part of the team back for a batch of minispheres. But even these will not bring about a dramatic change. We need a backbone connection between the surface and the Hives. This is the only we we can ensure a timely supply of resources.

Expedition log. Day 430
Shiva has demonstrated adaptibility. Still remaining at a sufficient distance from the Wall, he extended a thin (by his standards) offshoot of his matter towards us and greatly complicated the fight. Luckily, he doesn't appear to be able to play this trick too often.

Epedition log. Day 522
They made it. The squad returned with the minispheres, as well as combat-mod spider replicators. We can finally start looking for the Ark.

Expedition log. Day 525
Sent out a squad of spiders in search of the Ark. I thought this day would never come.

Expedition log. Day 537
Reinforcements from the Hives have arrived. Good news; the backbone-elevator project has been approved.

Expedition log. Day 553
Something strange is happening. Nearly every member of the first expedition team has fallen ill. All of the sick have a black coating on their mucous membranes and are suffering from weakness. Quarantine has been enforced.

Expedition log. Day 554
Analysis of the black coating has shown it to be Shiva matter. Somehow it never occured to anyone that if he could split off the Zyrex to attack us on the Wall there was nothing to stop him from creating even smaller lifeforms to attack us from within. We must warn the Hives.

Expedition log. Day 572
The sick are dying in agony, and our warning came too late: there's an epidemic in the Hives. Only 30% are immune.

Expedition log. Day 573
Took over as expedition manager following the death of the previous manager. You were a worthy knight, Sir Morgan, and you will forever be remembered as the one who brought us to the surface.

Expedition log. Day 581
The spiders are back. A couple of days' journey from here they found an ancient ship with several surviving megaspheres. Without a doubt, this is the Ark. It's a pity Sir Morgan didn't live to see this day.

Expedition log. Day 591
An order came from the Hives. In order to avoid subsequent infections, all members of the expedition must wear protective suits. Sounds reasonable.

Expedition log. Day 637
The spiders have returned from the 3rd expedition. They claim to have encountered a mining spider. The driver introduced himself as L.E. and said he was from a settlement far below ON the Wall. In order to avoid infection, they forbade him to climb higher, but the encounter itself is shocking. Is it possible that our ancestors were not the only ones from the Ark to survive? But how did they survive all these centuries, being on the surface?

Expedition log. Day 638
An order came from the Hives; Do not come into contact with Outers, to avoid infection. And get ready to receive a unit of immune researchers to prepare for surveillance and infiltration.

Expedition log. Day 655
Started transporting megaspheres from the Ark. When we're done, we'll send an engineering team to set up cordons to protect against the Outers. We don't need a second epidemic.

Expedition log. Day 766
Under order from the Hives, one of the megaspheres we had found was used to create an impenetrable rift below the cordons to guard against prying Outers. But due to a mess-up in the settings the megasphere ended up on the other side of the rift. One can only hope that the Outers have lost the skills and knowledge necessary to operate them.

From now on, you are required to report on all movements of the aforementioned piece of hardware and the contacts its owner initiates. Failure to comply with this order will result in extension of your exile for another year.

Othersider:

We made it abundantly clear to you that you can't come here!

Oh no, I'll have to sit through 100 cycles of quarantine because of you! Bummer!

How did you get here? Get out! Now I'll have to santitize everything because of you!

Is trespassing one of your customs, Outer?

Stay back, Outer! Or I'll call the guards!

Don't shoot, I'm just a scientist!

Take whatever you want, but please get back to where you came from!

What? An Outer? How did you get past Zeus?

Are you a real Outer? This encounter is the only reason I chose this job! Tell me about your people. How did you manage to survive on the Wall? Do you have any records of the time before the escape? Maybe something on the early settlement period of the Wall? We have so many gaps in our knowledge of that era! Please tell me you know something!

Day 92: Made contact with an Outer. He behaves calmly, but his primitive costume makes it impossible to determine the degree of infection. Er, human, could you please take off your helmet and open your mouth? Do you even understand me. Looks like the language of the Outers has changed too much over the centuries and they are no longer able to understand us.

Green computer:

Hey, Zeus, do you see anything strange there on the Wall?
Apart from the Outer?
Yep.
Everything seems normal. Why?
We're getting weird readings.
Get used to that. I've seen a lot of weird stuff over 20 years.

Zeus here. I'd like to remind you that although I'm responsible for your safety you should not forget the rules. First, don't take off your protective suit. You're not taking a stroll. And second, if you encounter Outers don't provoke them and don't be a hero.

Does anyone know what's up with the Wall?
Nope, everybody's getting strange stuff today.
We're awaiting instructions from the Hives.
It'll be a pretty long wait if the terminals are out of order.
Well, everything might fix itself, it happened before.

Post 5 on the line. Report the situation.
(nothing, text box is hidden out of view, only spacebar-continue button is visible)
Damn, is that an Outer? Cut the line, now! (...)

Attention, posts 5 through 8, an Outer's spider is approaching. Evacuate immediately.

Zeus, where are you? Over.
Haven't you heard that we have an Outer's spider crawling around?
Do something about it before we get a second epidemic.

Zeus, you're expected at the second point for equipment-installation.
Roger that.

Section 2, does anyone still have a terminal replicator?
Ours is faulty, we're getting gibberish from the Wall.
It's not the terminal. Everyone's getting artifacts in their messages today.
Is she changing the encoding again?
No idea.

So from reading all of this, especially the expedition days quotes, this is what I have so far:

In the world, there exists this giant alien goop called Shiva, and it's hovering over the planet. There was once a ship/ark, or a ship called the ark, that got attacked by Shiva and crash landed on the wall. Some of it's inhabitants went thru the wall and built the Hives, while others went south and that's basically where our people come from/live, the Outers.

At some point, the people in the hives send out an expedition to find the ark and retrieve some artifacts inside it. They had minispheres, so they can fight back the leviathans (arms of shiva basically).

What I don't understand is how many areas the Others have. There's the hives inside the wall, there's the expedition outpost. But the text seem to imply there's something else, especially here "We had no choice but to send part of the team back for a batch of minispheres. But even these will not bring about a dramatic change. We need a backbone connection between the surface and the Hives."

After a few months, the small squad that was sent back to the hives came back with minispheres and combat spiders (white spider). This gave the expedition the ability to fight off the zyrex and proceed to find the ark. They sent out a small team equipped with spiders to search for the ark. Soon after, an elevator between the outpost and hive has been greenlit.

A few days later, members of the first expedition started developing the zyrex disease in the outpost, since shiva developed the ability to basically infiltrate small amounts of goop to infect the Others. The disease eventually reached the hive somehow, and there's certain people who are immune (for whatever reason). Soon after this, the expedition leader, Sir Morgan died from the disease.

A few days later, the ark was found and inside where megaspheres (bigger versions of the minispheres?). I assume the background we see in the second layer of the DLC, where there's a ship crash landed in the wall, is the ark.

About a month later, the ark expedition encountered out protagonist's grandpa, and the Others figured out that some people went south when the ark first crash landed. They assume he and every Outer is infected since we live on the surface, and sent out immune researchers to do research.

A few months later, Others used a megasphere to create a rift to prevent more Outers from climbing the wall. That's basically the ending scene you see in the base game.

I'm curious how this relates to what we know in the main game. From the encounters we have in the base game, to the mines themselves (especially the lab mine in the topmost layer), so the scenes you see in the weapon rooms like that big door in the bottom layer of the mine. Would be nice to make another compendium similar to this for the base game wall encounters I guess.

One of the logs notes a megasphere was located downwards of the rift they made to block the Outers, which has to be the thing you activate with the keys? Not sure what the difference is between that and the big spheres you see on the wall in the first zone.

And agreed about needing the main game logs as well, but I doubt I'll want to replay that, and watching LPs to transcribe logs is a bit of a chore. At least the DLC is very linear and the big computers are hard to miss in the YT video timelines.
Gin Kenshin98 Aug 16, 2023 @ 1:06am
I think the starting area spheres in the background are just the houses/cities of the Outers, you can kinda see it in the opening credits when you start the game iirc. And yea it’s the same one that you use to defeat the boss after finding all 5 keys.

nope that's new, very nice, I'll add it to the full list
also added two new green PC logs today

That’s a really nice add. Basically full circles what happened.

Thank you for bringing it up and adding it.

Bumping this thread just because it's awesome and should be at the top of the list.

Main game logs not very lore revealing informative. Two important facts:
1) Blue computer warns about impending Shiava opject, that caused evacuation to "other" side.
2) Other siders had infiltrator in "outers" settlment.

As for the superstructure(wall) itself... It full of mystery and questions until... you play through Necrosmith. I bet this is the same universe. Devs are fans of old Might and Magic series aon/or Dark City movie.
