I hope someone makes an non-localized english/french translation mod for this game
Even the producers of this game have admitted that the English / French localization are not good enough , though they will not lift a finger to improve on it themselves.

I wonder if there will be a brave soul who make a mod to fix this issue now that these games are on PC.
I am at the case where a clearly Japanese young man is talking like a Los Santos gangster and it makes me cringe . I can deal with it but it is still a bad localization that is irrelevant to someone from Europe (At least I have played enough GTA: San Andreas to get it). I want to see Japanifornia return to being Japan because the west coast of the United States in not the only place in the world that matters when it comes to translating stuff

So it still has the garbage translation that even changes names of characters?

Do it youself because no one else care besides a few vocal weebs.
Changing names to japanese would also be horrible because most characters would need a translators note to explain the joke about their names since they are mostly puns or wordplays.

Seconding Nisse here. The translation is cheesy, but everyone has fun making fun of it (a la "eat your hamburgers Apollo") without caring too much.

"No. 1 Dragon I See: Ace Attorney" just doesn't have the same ring to it.

And what really matters is the same anyway.
If it was more of an accurate translation half the game would be a translation note explaining jokes.
Love that the AA investigations 2 fan translation went with localization accurate translation and even fandubbed new characters

Personally I would only speak for myself and not on behalf of people that I do not represent.
If the people who care and can do something about it are as few as you say then it might be a lost cause. If anyone will ever do it, it will be a fan with both the knowledge of the language and at the same time the technical know-how to put it ingame
In the past the excuse was probably related to it not being on PC, but if nothing happens again it is as you say and nobody who can do something about it, cares.

If I could do it myself, then I would be doing it already, but sadly while I can only hear Japanese but I cannot read it and I also lack the technical know-how.

Fan-subs used to actually include some explaining text in the past. It definitely helped gain more insight into jokes and customs of a distant culture.

I am curious about how jarring the difference in future AA games will be once and if there are ever future games in the series. Great Ace attorney already left pretty much everything other than some name puns alone. That one did not really need any huge explaining extra notes.

Nobody is going to waste their time with that

You, on the other hand, could learn Japanese, if you insist so much and it'd be useful for a lot of other things, as well

If people cared they wouldnt have made the fan translation of ace attorney investigations 2 localization accurate with some redrawn art and even fandub for new characters, and that is a ds game.
Fan translations of console games have never been uncommon.

I think it's very possible the next game in the series could be localized to be more accurate to the japanese version. Ace Attorney fans are weird about "oh, this is the only way to localize it, you'd need pages of TL notes" But like, TGAA managed pretty well without them, so it's not farfetched to have a mainline AA game go that route. Hell, Scarlet Study didn't even change the names. I think that proves you can go a pretty faithful route with AA.

If I have to put a lot of time on something it will be on the PhD am am planing to work on and not on learning a very difficult language from scratch just to fix a localization that shows it cracks each time there is a case that shows Japanese settlements and culture in "California". Which is not even that big a deal outside of making some people cringe at times and does not affect the actual plot.
I will at some point find a way to learn to read the damned language though.

They made the fan translation of AAI2 consistent with everything else that was localized before it. There is no big mystery behind it.

The localization of each game in the series from 1 to 5 is like a cross examination with the witness getting cornered even more with each time their lie is pointed out. I wonder if TGAA was the "breakdown" point of the Japanifornia.

The reason that not enough people care is a mix of how the status quo for this series is so old that the localized version is a classic and that even nay-sayers like me move on once we are done with the cases that show the biggest inconsistencies (One of this reasons that I remembered this thread is that I just started "The Monstrous Turnabout" and read the explanation for why is there a yokai themed village there)

The games are still great in spite of everything I am ranting about. It is just that I do not like to see "rice balls" being called "jelly filled doughnuts".
