Game thoughts / reviews?
For anyone who has played and completed this game before, is it worth buying? "Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Trilogy" was an outstanding game. The story, depth, character development, music, script writing, gameplay, etc were all top notch and amazing. The more you play, the more you want to know and unfold the story. Unfortunately, when I played "The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles", it was horrendous. The graphic looks good though, but other than that, everything else is absolutely terrible. The characters are extremely annoying and at times foolish / doing stupid things or saying stupid things. One or two of the cases are alright, but the rest of them are just dumb, too simple and unsatisfying to solve. The script is a crime to the genre and was dreadful to read or even skip through. That Herlock Sholmes was extremely annoying throughout most of the game. It felt as if this game is developed by a completely different team / people who did not understand the slightest bit of what made the first game great in the first place. I did not mean to offend anyone. If you had a good time with this title, then you are getting your money's worth. I certainly did not and I'm afraid "Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney Trilogy" will follow the same vein as The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles. For those who played all 3 games before, do share your thoughts about this one. thanks!

I'm not sure how it would apply to someone who didn't like The Great Ace Attorney since that one is generally considered the high point of the franchise, but the Apollo trilogy is generally considered to be not as good as the original trilogy but still fine in its own right, with the first game in particular being pretty solid. Dual Destinies is kind of the black sheep, mainly because the new writers (it's worth mentioning here that these games are literally made by a different lead; Shu Takumi was the creator of the original trilogy, AJ1, and The Great Ace Attorney, but Dual Destinies and SoJ were by a newer team that also made the Ace Attorney Investigations games) ignore a lot of Phoenix and Apollo's development in T&T and AJ1 respectively to justify them being amateurishly klutzy and clueless again, and Spirit of Justice is divisive leaning towards being a good finale to the trilogy.

I wouldn't go in expecting the same consistency of quality you get from the original trilogy, but as a package deal I think there's good in each of them, and they're still worth playing. Most people will probably agree that TGAA is better written, though, so if you didn't like that then it couldn't hurt to wait for a sale to be safe.

You're like me then.

Anyway. yeah the "Apollo Justice" games are definitely better than "The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles"...

...the 1st and 3rd anyway, since Dual Destinies is kinda bad ('^ ^ ): the new character takes too much spotlight compared to, well, the rest of the cast fans actually care about, and also the game is just way too easy.

Just keep in mind however that the games of this bundle are a bit different than "Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Trilogy": even though they follow the same formula, everything even remotely challenging about the investigation/exploration/plot progression is gone. There's a a tiny bit of that in the first game, but the other 2 will just hold your hand and guide you all the way to the trials.

Oh yeah, I'd forgotten about that. There's still occasionally magatama sections and stuff but DD and SoJ don't really ever let you feel lost during the investigations, for better or worse.

As a Trilogy, it's a less consistent one than the original one and there's lower lows but they're still really good overall imo.

Why is this called the 'Apollo Justice' trilogy in the first place? After his self-titled game, he's a very distant third in importance behind both Phoenix and Athena in Dual Destines, and at best second in Spirit of Justice - although he does finally get decent character development in that one.

It's pretty much entirely just because of the first and last games, though they did at least attempt to make it seem like Apollo was important to DD in its marketing with how much they pushed his edgy eyepatch look, despite it being absolutely wasted in-game.

The bastardization of Japanese culture is much higher in these releases, to the point that to anyone with good sense it becomes unbearable. The insistence that the games somehow take place in the USA borders on the insane in one of the cases.
