Before placing stickers, its a good idea to switch the game into windowed mode, and have a picture of the npc you are copying onto Maxwell (or any of his siblings) beside the game. That way you can easily recognise your mistakes in its appearance and fix them. It can sometimes be difficult to catch exactly why it looks in the wrong place or direction, but don't give up!
When placing stickers, its best to keep in mind that where you place it with your mouse depends on how that sticker behaves. The arrows here; http://imgur.com/TwVylfa do not change the behavior, only where the sticker is. For example, if you place a sticker on the leg/arm, but move it with the arrows onto the head, the sticker will still have the same animation as the leg/arm. Here's a picture of an arm sticker in motion. http://imgur.com/PKFKoUU Before motion it was ontop of the head, but since it was first placed on the arm it moves according to it. This information is most useful for creating tails. To prevent the tail from behaving like a leg, move it into the sky or on the body with your mouse, then use the arrows to move it into its correct position.
Since Maxwell's limbs are larger then the cats, you will need to make them smaller. Limbs are most commonly the hardest part to make when recreating npcs, however it depends on how detailed they are. Before placing stickers you will need to estimate where the stickers will be placed. Ask yourself, is this leg/arm too big to hide under the sticker? Does it need to be positioned in a different way?
If you see a hint of Maxwell's leg or arm poking through the sticker, then its best to deal with the re-arrangement as soon as possible. If you don't, and finish the limb to perfectly resemble the creature you're aiming for, then you'd need to re-do some or all of it just to get the human limb completely hidden. This is because if you try to make Maxwell's leg/arm smaller with the stickers linked to it, the stickers will become small as well. If you try to move the leg somewhere else, the stickers will follow it. In order to prevent the sticker from being changed with the limb, you'd need to move it away from the it with your mouse. Whatever you do, all results lead to repositioning it all over again.
Keeping all this in mind and with a bit of patience, congrats! You've made a kitten avatar!
