Halo Device
I don't know these things from 40k lore, but clearly there's a massive downside to using it and getting those insane state bonuses. But do those downsides appear in the game, or is this a problem for Future Rogue Trader?

Nope! None. You will just get some extra ending slides depending on your conviction, but ingame, there's no downsides at all

Yeah, I went and read some Halo Device lore, and I think I'll save this for a run where I'm not an Officer or trying not to be a massive **** to everyone.

Isn't it some kind of Yu'vath artifact? Do not touch that unless you want to go full chaos.

funnily enough, full heretical ending won't acknowledge it, you only get special slides for dogmatic\icono paths.

And it's implied that icono starts to eat innocents, while dogmatic EATS HIS ENEMIES, which is pretty hardcore, you gotta admit

Ancient alien tech, for sure. I saw what it did to the previous owner. Argenta actually had to reload her heavy bolter to finish killing him.

NOW I want to equip it more than ever.

it's not clear who originally made it, halo devices are generally a "some undisclosed dead civilization" thing in segmentum obscurus, not necrons or yu'vath because they're both active (even if owlcat didn't bother putting yu'vath or strixis or other koronus expanse dwelling minor xenos in) and their tech doesn't line up with it

they're really more of a plot device for the 40krpgs to throw out when they want to show something really alien is tempting but dangerous, and by extent they had built in balance methods like not being usable by psykers or chaos

Oh good. I chose to throw it away, but instead it's now equipped. Except I'm not getting any bonus from it, I just can't take it off and replace it with the trinket item I had in that slot before.
Owlcat, you've got some work to do on this game.

Ok, that's actually a bug, I should've warned you x( Just don't put it on, put it into cargo. It is bugged, and it's a known bug, I reported it myself just to be sure.

This is the prime counter example when people say Jae's legal xeno trade hurts no one.

Still, I already fire her at this point, wonder what's her take on the Halo Device, I imagine it's either not that serious or you should watch out, shereen.

Yeah, unfortunately, I didn't notice (because I thought I'd thrown the thing away, like the dialogue said I did) until well later. Now the first save I've got from before "throwing it away" is right after the start of Chapter 4.

Well, i guess I get another chance to decide if Marazhai lives or dies. And a whooole bunch of flying around, exploring, and colony management to redo. : \

I may take a break from Rogue Trader.
