Does it actually work as written and the bonus +5 only apply to allies and not the vanguard?

"Wall of concrete now grants +5 temporary wounds to allies"

It specifies allies, so I assume it's only other characters, but the base skill applies to both allies and the vanguard itself, so I wondered if that is actually how it works.
