Is Ulfar that weak?
I am a long time Space Wolf fan so I was excited when I saw Ulfar as a companion. Now, I get toning down some of the characters in the game for the sake of balance but Ulfar has got to be the weakest companion.

Cons:
-Slow. Cant move passed small obstacles so sometimes he cant even get into the fight
-Gear is locked behind reputation. His starter gear is pretty bad. If at this point in the game you have not gone down that rep tree, then you can't even get some of the gear.
-Cant step out of cover to shoot so you are forced to leave him in the open, which leads to him getting killed a lot. In fact, he dies way more than any other companion for me.
-Almost no build variety due to gear limitations
-Cannot fully respec. This is an issue with other companions as well. So you have to level up pretty far to get certain key skills.

Pros:
-Space Wolf

He(and some of the other characters) should have a more unique Cassia skill tree. He should have access to more gear options. I found a good bolt pistol and chain sword for him but almost all my other characters have better gear.

Anyone have any good builds or play styles for him? I am playing on daring

he starts off rough due to limited gear and locked in talents, but he still makes for a decent Arch Militant once you build him more.
his size is always going to be annoying though

yeah, I am Not a space were wolf fan, but rather more civilized Dark Angels, that aside, Ulfar is definitely the panty waste of all space marines. He is so meh.
On the other hand...
no... he is meh. He isn't Space Marine material. He needs to have his local Apothecary do him up for some gene material extraction and move on.

What disappoints me more is that I can not use his gear. Sure it is big, but if I am in powah armah then Pasqal should be able to con those angry spirits into serving me, and at least have a space marine sized chain sword.

I can run around with a heavy bolter taken from a Chaos Marine, but ya know, I can't lift his Mjolnr like other gear.
Oh well.
All joking aside, I think he is the only companion that disappoints me.
peace

Yeah, i have same problem with him, Argenta feels like way better marksman with acces to more gear and (inquisitor guy) Heinrich? Heinrix? is better meele dps. :( I expect more from somebody with 4WS and 4BS :(

He is absurdly overpowered. Invincible and killing hordes of enemies with bursts.
People say he's weak because they don't know how to use him right.

His problem though, is that he is basically a weaker Argenta, because of equipment restrictions. But in this context, "weaker" means he is slightly worse than a one-woman invincible killing machine.

Oh just you wait untill you play a heretic path and get uralon the cruel as a party member. He is just as chonky as Ulfar and just as useless with the bonus that his model doesnt load in and needs multiple reloads of save files to make it appear. Then you are unable to put any gear in his slots because reasons.

Is that the only bonus for Ulfar? Hes big enough to fit in multiple strategist zones isn't he? Kick also just prones people lmao.

I used him as an off-tank or split tank when the enemies are scattered across a big zone - that did really good heavy ranged weapon bursts. arch militant is a solid class if you know how to use it.

game 100% has to fix his inability to get around certain fields though. The defiler one got me a glitch win where ulfar and the boss couldn't reach each other and the boss killed himself to his own fire.

if there is two rolls of light cover some time he can use it, other times he can't it is really wierd. but don't be afraid when ulfar goes down, that is part of his specials, he goes down and comes back up, and he keeps all the archmilitant stacks.

Rly tried to do something with him. But he just weaker than everyone that he could replace. I hope that the devs buff him in some way or at least let us change his architype
Megapewpew Jan 11, 2024 @ 11:11am
He can be incredibly powerful with the right equipment slots. The problem is that by the end of act 3 and the start of 4 that your action economy is so good that it just drowns out anything else in combat. By the early part of act 4 you have absurd action economy with the chance to have unlimited actions per turn with Pasqal(or whoever has high enough tech-use).
Yasmail Jan 11, 2024 @ 11:35am
At least for me he never dies and I used him since I got him in act 3. And he was also able to dish out a solid amount of damage. I did really have to lean into the arch militant talents to have multiple attacks per turn and stack versitility. There is some pretty nice loot for him gated behind reputation which can help. But his movement makes him pretty frustrating to use.

restarted my playthrough to play around with certain characters. Just reached the Cormorag section and made a beeline to get him as fast as possible. So far he's absolutely shredding through Drukhari thanks to the heavy stubber you find lying in the trash. There's really no complexity to making him very deadly so far. Cassia and MC give him extra turns, every talent I picked for him is to make him better at using heavy weapons and abusing burst fire attacks to mow down enemies.

if enemies close into melee, just stab them with astartes combat knife until they die.

working well so far.

Seeing how this statement can be applied to literally over half of your party, it's kinda a moot point.

His problem though, is that he is basically a weaker Argenta,

And ... you don't see a problem with that? Argenta is only a sister of battle, and not even an outstanding one at that while Ulfa is supposed to be a battle-harden Space Marine.

Heck forget Argenta, he's "weaker" than the entire party (with the exception of maybe Jae if you sticked to her default support build). So the OP's comment is quite valid if you didn't miss the point.

He's not weak because he can't massacre a bunch of trash ('cause everyone can do that), he's weak because he's "literally" weaker than everyone else in the party.

He's weak comperativly but idk what you play that he dies constantly. I think he died once on unfair for me so he's not really weak just weaker than argenta he still shares most of her strenghts.

he sucks, too big (unit size) and his build kinda sucks by the time you get him.
