Heretic Path
I tried playing it in January and the writing felt .. not great. Did they rework some of it or are we still looking at "better be iconoclast / dogmatic if you want to enjoy the story events" ?

While I agree with your premise, I think this game suffers from being extremely linear.
You basically chose your path and then take the corresponding answers.
It boils down to "I kill you for the Emperor" or "I kill you for Chaos" or " I let you live, no matter what you did"

There is no nuance, no place to develop your char beyond choice A, B or C
I agree with that completely. I can't say how many times I've made neutral choices that were far more appropriate than the dogmatic option, more dogmatic even. But I haven't gotten far enough to tell how much of an impact that has made in my dogmatic progression. I'm not about to argue that the writing is stellar. I just think people aren't being fully honest with themselves when they blame everything on the writing.

I think you're making a good point. I had cages on my bridge and went to talk to Argenta during a heretical playthrough just to see what would happen. Argenta threw a major temper tantrum and told me off for my bad behavior, but didn't leave. She eventually left at the point that she always does if you play the heretic path.

Every time you talk to any character, you can dismiss them. I could just as easily have told her to get lost after the character outburst and probably would have if this was reality.
That's how I play my dogmatic RT. That xeno vermin Yrliet is dead on Janus. Cassia keeps her mutant self tucked safely away in the navigator's chamber. Idira dies ASAP. Last save, Jae died in the warehouse. The most current save, I was keeping her around to see if she could be useful in tracking xenos/heretics. Gov Vyatt died for her heresy. If I were playing heretical, Argenta would be dead if that option presented itself.

It genuinely seems, though, that the game tries to steer players towards iconoclast. Imagine that.
