How do you "do" mods?
I don't "do" zip files, guys. I used to use Vortex on Nexusmods; the Steam of mods. Easy, accessible, no zip file nonsense, easy turn-on/turn-off mod buttons. I don't know why modders abandoned it. Unless there's the Steam Workshop, which this game doesn't use apparently, I have to try Nexusmods. But I don't know how to do "Manual" downloads. I've never been good with WinZip. Is there an alternative to Vortex out there? Thanks! :ulthwe:

For this game download the mod(s) from nexus, unzip and paste the unzipped files in:
`%userprofile%\AppData\LocalLow\Owlcat Games\Warhammer 40000 Rogue Trader\UnityModManager\`
Windows 10 and up now has a built in Unzipper. You don't need WinZip.
I use 7-Zip which is free license download with more features than the one built into Windows. But the Windows one is all you need.

There is a Mod manager out there called Modfinder v1.4.7 last updated in December 2024 for Rogue Trader but I have not used it.

Personally I think learn the Manual process. Once you know it it is easy. Especially since WinZip is now history.

Okay, I'll try it... Thanks for the info. I feel like I need Geek Squad to come over to my place and install my mods for me. =P (obvious sarcasm). Does anyone know why everyone stopped using Vortex? It was perfect, then abandoned.

buddy this game literally launched with workshop support. Ish. It was a little complicated, and I presume it's Games Workshop that had them take it down b/c Games Workshop does seem to be anti-mod. Owlcat's pro-mod.

I guess you are afraid to break anything, but if you do mess up, you can always restore the games files with steam. Even your save game sits secured in the cloud, so I´d say just do it.
Won´t be long and you´ll be able to do it in seconds.
The installation instructions are on the mod description pages. Just follow them step by step and you´ll be fine.
Regarding zip files, today you simply double click on them like you would with any other folder you want to open. From there you can just copy the files or drag and drop them in the desired directory.

This is where Unity mods go. There are also Owlmods which are more common recently. They go in the /modifications folder and you need a config file to track them.

What you’re looking for is ModFinder. It gives you a list of mods and handles the installation and configuration for you. It’s nice because some mods need edits to a text file to install. You can find it on nexus in the RT section.
