Limited Profit Factor
Can you farm more or is there a hard limit of it in a game?

Don't believe it's infinitely farmable, but there is an explorator station with an event which will buy fuel from you, and one of the things they offer is profit factor. You can sell them as much fuel as you want, but only the first time you go there.

It's in Mu-Rho 79

Ahh alright thanks for the heads up, I'm just gonna mod that out then >.>

IDK if there is "more then enough" later I don't like artificial limitations like that in my games.
There is definitely more than enough in the game, if you're not skimming through everything you will have more than you can ever use by the end.

Well I mean it's obviously possible to get as much PF as the most expensive item costs, otherwise it would never be obtainable.

PF isn't spent when you buy things, you just need to reach that PF level (And reputation level) to unlock the items for free.

There are ways to lose profit factor, you do have to spend some of it if you want to re-allocate character stats through Janris, and some choices can cause you to lose it (Like some choices cause you to gain it)

But buying things from the traders never does.

There are certain things that cause profit factor to go down, but even then it's only by one or two at a time, whereas if you visit every system and do every quest you'll likely have dozens more than you'd need to buy the most expensive item by the end of the game. The only way it's really treated as a limited resource is in relation to your progress through the game (so that you couldn't just buy the most high level items at the beginning of the game).

I have only beaten the game twice, but to buy all items you need 172 PF, I usually end somewhere around 168-170. I only miss out on one item and I can't really remember what it is so it isn't as though I am really broken up about it.

The last time I played I ended up with around 200 even though I stopped seeking it as an outcome after I started to stack it up.
It's great to improve early but after you reach 30 or so it really isn't the limiting factor whatsoever.
What you should be concerned with is all the other loot that grants reputation. That is your limiting factor.

Agreed, in order to max out reputation with more than 2 factions it's very likely you'll need to farm random encounters for weapons and armor.

Unless you go absolutely ham with rerolling or hiring Mercs you'll have more than enough

There's a limited amount but you'll get your hands on more than you could ever think to use. And that's without even trying.

The ToyBox mod allows you to edit the profit factor.
