The first DLC is very good, and IMHO should have been included in base game.
I really hate this DLC culture. Wish we'd go back to having game expansions. That way we could play the base game, then the expansion when it's released, rather than playing base game and then replaying base game with how many DLCs should be there...
In my opinion, it's just semantics at this point. They could just add post-story DLC which would be what you are calling an expansion.
I understand what you mean, but I'm glad DLC is a thing. It can be great, but it can obviously be really bad. In the case of Rogue Trader, it might be frustrating "needing" to play the whole game again just to experience the DLC as it should but would you rather have it be this way or not getting any more content at all? In other way, it can give you a reason to play a good game again.
I'm gonna be a little preemptive right now, because I haven't even finished act 1, but I'm loving the overall quality of it and hope that not only the next DLC has the same quality and that Owlcat consider as well adding more stuff to it. I really love being in a 40k setting where I can appreciate all the reading and aesthetics without being in a permanent kill or be killed action scenario.
Just to conclude, I'm gonna say that DLC can also be very exploitative, ESPECIALLY in Warhammer games. I don't consider this one to be like that (at least not yet), but having to pay 1/3 of a game for each race pack to add to the overall experience of said game can be a massive pain. I'm all for paying for worthy content and raising the amount of it in a great game but Warhammer stuff really drains you.
(Looking at Gladius and Battlesector right now)
Battlesector is solid right up until the end. If you are following the narrative and paying attention you will be fine. . .If you aren't, well, best of luck to you.
Gladius wasn't my type of game. Its procedurally generated gameplay with a loose narrative providing anchors so it doesn't feel like a waste of time. I bought it for the Mechanicus campaign and after beating it I never felt the urge to return. The difficulty for Mechanicus was all frontloaded, If you can make it to Chapter 2 without being wiped out you will steam roll everything after Chapter 3, I converted every Kastelan on the map and had an unstoppable ska robot army that I sent out offensively while I surrounded my city with a ring of Disintegrators with Crusaders behind them to protect them from airborne units. At that point I just left the game play itself which was both boring and satisfying.
Waiting for the other DLC for the complete experience is a fine choice. The game is quite time intensive and one complete playtrough takes quite a while.
Id say that's more on the type of game that Gladius and Battlesector are than being a "warhammer" thing
Especially like the sound track in one of the areas.
