Card Inverted Twining Ritual Question

So I was having the same initial problem with this quest everyone using Toybox was having.

I turned Toybox off, restarted the game, and loaded the autosave from when you first arrive in the shrine to start the quest.

Mostly it seemed to proceed as it should with the exception that every time Kibellah tries to "Hear the Domin's thoughts" she can't.

I did the ritual. I encouraged and have up to this point successfully romanced her. Is it SUPPOSED to keep failing like this? Is it bugged? Is there some other option I tripped somewhere along the way? What's the whole point of the twining ritual if every attempt to hear the Domin fails?
