Get game now or wait for 2nd DLC?
It looks like the game has really improved a lot since release. Recent reviews going as high as 87%, and the newly released DLC is also well received - a far cry from the initially mixed launch.

Given the apparent quality of the DLC, I'm now wondering if I should just wait for the 2nd DLC to come out in Dec before getting the game. Do they typically delay DLC releases, and should I just not bother waiting and get now?

This is my question as well.

Second DLC definitely won't come out in december. Someone here said they are delaying it and it would make sense as the 1st DLC got delayed to September. It's just not possible to have a DLC of Void Shadows quality come out 3 months after it's release.

That said, just go for it. Base game is in much MUCH better state and the DLC honestly suprised me with how good it is. I really liked the integration into the main game (DLC progresses with the main story and the DLC companion has banter, reactivity and offers some new choices in the main story line as well).

Might as well wait for third DLC in a couple years time. The better mods will probably start coming out after that.

'Sim Sentiments 2' has to be Fallout 4's best mod, I expect in a few years someone will create an equivalent 'Sim Outposts 2'. You could wait until then.

Alternatively, you could just get it now.

IMHO, it depends on you.
If you plan on playing it once I would buy now, get season pass, wait until 2nd DLC is out.
Then do the same for season 2 pass (if it is a thing, there have been no announcements that I know of).
I heard it both ways, that the second DLC is on time for Dec and that it was going to be delayed. With the delayed bit a while ago, but I have not seen anything official.

Happy Playing

Get it now. I did my first playthrough & now I will have a second

Do not wait due to next DLC! Until the 7th of October the Season Pass, which includes the current Void Shadows DLC, is cheaper with the 40% discount than standard Void Shadows purchase. That means you can get Void Shadows AND Lex Imperialis for less money than Void Shadows buring the Season Pass in the next 1-2 days.

Not to mention everything else Rogue Trader is on sale right now too for 40% off:

https://store.steampowered.com/app/2186680/Warhammer_40000_Rogue_Trader/

-40% off Right now along with Season 1 Pass:

https://store.steampowered.com/app/2687230/Warhammer_40000_Rogue_Trader__Season_Pass/

Deluxe Edition also 40% off:

https://store.steampowered.com/app/2682660/Warhammer_40000_Rogue_Trader__Deluxe_Pack/

Same here (least needed/wanted DLC but cheapest). Just a new ship throne and a Cherub pet:
https://store.steampowered.com/app/2682670/Warhammer_40000_Rogue_Trader__Voidfarer_Pack/

If you don't see the -40% discounts anymore on links then sale is done.

Here's a follow-up question:

Are the DLCs integrated into the main game or are they separate stories that don't add anything to the main game? Because if it's the former, I'm considering waiting until all the DLCs are out before buying the game and playing it at all.

The minor DLC's are just items, so they don't really affect the story.

The first major DLC, Void Shadows, adds quite a bit into the main story line and it's integrated into the game really well, so it's definitely more of the former.

Considering the game is quite heavily discounted atm it might be worth buying now and then waiting to play until the second major DLC comes out.

Does that mean, if you've already completed a playthrough (or are in the middle of one) when the next DLC releases, you'd have to start a new game to experience it - given that they are integrated into the main game?

Nope you can start it either at character creation by enabling it there so it integrates seamlessly as you progress. Or any time before the last Act of the game and still experience 99% of its content as the game slightly changes the way its introcuded or how far in you are.

Here's the details form anothe rpost of mine:

The main DLC cultist mission can be started after the 1st/2nd main Mission done in Act 1. The new Bridge Officer events, areas and errands are integrated into the game itself from game start. Just make sure you actually activate the DLC during character creation difficulty settings, although the Devs may have fixed this today to make it on by default. You still see some of them even in the tutorial Prologue replacing otherwise nameless NPCs form pre DLC.

- The DLC is also integrated once you activate it at anytime after that until right before the Point Of No Return to Act 5. You will get an event on warp jump where you meet all the new Officers (although that may not happen if you talk to them on the bridge before jumping). Then after another jump, you can start the cult companion cinematic and cultist quest start will occur just like it does for Act 1 post first or second Act 1 mission.

- The only content you will miss from Act 1 really, is the unique integration of new bridge officers early rather than a slapped together late introduction. Also there's a new point of interest in the Rycadi System being an Astropath station, which has dialogue events that lead to a reward (an amulet that makes you immune to Horrors of the Warp, that annoying debuff Daemons will use).

- The DLC fore a new game, allows you to reach level 16 I believe. I'm about to talk to the Governor and start the parade and have 7579/8005 EXP being 426 left to Level 16. That means we can reach the first level of our Second Archetype and own the last Act 1 Boss now (hopefully... again). :P

- Doing the Cultist Mission in Act 1 has no impact on "time progressing" in Act 1 for the default Missions.

Late Edit: There may be a new vendor item here or there too in Act 1 but i'm not certain. They may not be available for Act 2 onwards, due to those two vendors being separate from the rest of the game vendors post Act 1 I believe.

Just to add in addition to there being unique dialogue in starting the DLC at game start, there's also some dialogue that changes if you start it late because you have already met some characters and have opinions of your own, when a NPC mentions them.

My honest answer and a one that most people would agree especially about owlcat's games are wait until there's a big "Enhanced Edtion" word slapped on the title but you can always get it

The problem is the huge discount right now, and waiting 2 years to do that. Might as well get the 40% discount now and sit on the game. I doubt there will be a Enhanced Edition discount at 40% until a year after its respective release.
