I did not know this was even a possibility. I did not even consider that it could be possible.
I just beat the game with the disease as heretical rank 5. There was nothing I could remember besides them saying the doctor could fix it. I can't speak on the ending slides because I used this last run to knock off the C'tan ending achievement which seems to be very unique and dominating result.
