Willpower on an Officer?
I notice a few guides recommend it as does the game itself but I am not seeing many abilities that really make a whole lot of use for it (in the officer tree or in master tactician or grand strategist trees either which are the classes I would likely move into) and if I choose to play a character from a Hive world it seems like there is a talent that makes willpower pretty much obsolete allowing you to use your fellowship score (which will no doubt be your primary stat) in place of willpower for saving throws?

Maybe if I chose Imperial world instead willpower might have its use to protect from certain abilities but is there any real reason to go imperial over hive?

Is there something I am missing here?

Comradery only allows you to use FEL instead of WIL for resistance tests, any abilities that use it remain unchanged. A bit of WIL can be useful for an officer depending on your ability choices and what else you're doing (like going psyker).

Yeah I saw that but I am looking through the officer abilities and I can't see any that actually benefit from willpower, nor can I really see any in the master tactician or grand strategist trees either.

Pretty set on noble for my origin so I don't think I will be going psyker (and unsure if there is any way to become a psyker later on or if it is even worth it.)

With no abilities that I can see that actually benefit from Willpower and Comradery allowing me to use Fellowship for Willpower resistance tests the logical conclusion I come to is that Willpower is the ideal dump stat, but with many people recommending it on officer (with even the game itself recommending it) I feel like I am missing something here?

What abilities in the officer or grand strategist or master tacticians actually use willpower? In what situation will I actually find a use for willpower on this particular character?

Willpower is used by various Officer Talents mostly, with some abilities also using it or through their upgrade talents:

"Get Back in the Fight! (Ability)
The Officer encourages a target ally to immediately recover from burning, bleeding, toxin and stun effects.
If the target is under Voice of Command effect, it gains +2×(Officer's WP bonus) temporary Wounds."

"Wounds Are No Excuse! (Talent upgrade for Get Back in the Fight!)
Get Back in the Fight! removes 1 fresh injury from the target and heals the target for (Officer's WP bonus / 2) wounds for each condition removed by Get Back in the Fight! (including fresh injuries). A minimum of (Officer's WP bonus / 2) wounds is always healed, even if no conditions are removed."

"Inspire Courage (Talent)
Whenever the Officer targets an ally with an ability for the first time in a round, that ally gains +WP bonus temporary wounds."

"Iron Discipline (Talent)
Whenever the Officer targets an ally with an ability for the first time in a round, that ally gains +WP bonus temporary wounds."

"More Than Possible! (Talent upgrade for Bring it Down!)
The target of Bring It Down! gains +1 AP. If they finish their extra turn using this ability with 0 AP, they will suffer WP bonus direct damage."

As you can see it has to do a lot with adding extra temporary wound healing.

Ah that is what I was missing

Tool tip for me just shows "If the target is under Voice of Command effect, it gains +6 temporary Wounds." but you need to hover over the number to find out that number is decided by 2xWP bonus

It is probably because many MC officers are some sort of Psyker, especially Sanctified. So we go FEL first and then WP once FEL is maxed each class.

Side note: Hive world has possibly one the top tier common talents, Weapon Personalization, if you aren't going a Psyker route :) (I wish Argenta had that!)

Just for info: your RT can become a psyker later, when he reaches exemplar levels. But he can get only three psi powers besides getting max psi-rating. That is when WP comes in handy, besides being your Will save and secondary buff stat.

I used it to become a sanctic, mostly to have Emperor's Word and Shield. As officer and Tactician it is nice to have, as I have the actions to spare for the buffing.
