What does the yellow cross on items mean?

So I first I thought it was uniques, but it is not the case.

I think so that's what I gathered lol. :D

Sometimes it's in the eye of the beholder, but super trash items tend to not have that cross.

Correct. The plus means slightly higher quality than a regular item with the same name. The item will usually have something in the name to reflect it as well, like "well-maintained" or something.

It means the item differs from a standard item of it's class. Usually this means it is better, but not always, for example the "scrappy" variant of weapons the early game cultists use has that mark as well.
