Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader
What is the difference between the torpedo types?
Wondering because for some reason my rare eldari sonic warheads do less than my melta torpedos. Do you always go with the more torpedoes/damage option?

You go with Aeldari torpedoes because not only do they do top tier torpedo damage (not best), but more importantly, you can use them every turn as they have zero cooldown. :p :P

Which means you can quickly build up salvos of them allowing you to easily corner and kill things by kiting and taking 0 damage. Or not really caring about the enemy attacking a blowing up your torpedoes because there's a lot more where that came from.

Aeldari Torpedoes and Torpedoes in general (in addition to everything else and other strategies), are now even more effective with the addition Bombers/Fighters, which act as another escort ship but better in some instances. Less need to kite so much and your torpedoes/your ship aren't targeted as much.

Damage per torpedo IIRC goes, aeldari -> plasma -> melta, but the aeldari launcher has a faster reload (unless you use the torpedo reload booster that comes with the Falchion-class flagship).
I have switched to the new fighters/bombers, although the torpedoes still remain an option. The fighters can also be used for the triple torpedo power, btw. If you prefer torpedoes, I would go with the aeldari due to the shorter cooldown.
the combat in this game is based on the board game which is based on Battlefleet Gothic, and a core thing in BFG is that eldar weapons the Imperium shares, the elder weapons do the same or less damage, but with lower reloads, better hit ratios, better defences etc.

Unless it was fixed, you can actually use both by not using the second Fighter Squad. Doesn't work for Bombers though (they only allow 1 squad, so they automatically hit cap). :)

I'm not sure if it's a bug or intentional either.

The sonic warheads are available every round, unlike the Melta Torpedos.

Really wish they would include these informations in the actual item description.

How about melta vs plasma? I have no idea what the difference is.
