Is this a good game for me?
I've been getting more and more curious about the Warhammer universe, and this game does have some positive word of mouth even if it isn't universally positive. What is after all? But, the only other Warhammer game I bought was pretty terrible... I keep going back and forth. Turn based strategy is right up my alley! But, what if I end up stuck in some kind of maddening impossible puzzle I'm too stubborn to just solve with an FAQ (like happened with Divinity Original Sin II)? But, it IS on sale right now. But, what if it turns out to be really short? And so on.

Basically I thought I should get some advice and thoughts from you folks. Couldn't hurt in coming to a somewhat informed decision. Thank you in advance.

That isn't necessarily a deal breaker even if it is true, lately I've been enjoying Valheim and that's SUPER grindy, heh. How about stuff like bugs or glitches? Every game is bound to have a couple of course, I'm not especially bothered so long as stuff isn't outright broken.
No grind at all. I don't even think you can grind, you just move along the story and i advice to check every planet for more awesome stories and bit's of lore. (Am mean by grindy i see something like farming mobs or resources over an over, i didn't do that here)

Was very glitchy on release, now am at my second playthrough since last dlc was out, haven't had anything noticeable or game breaking

Agree with you on Divinity some puzzles broke me mentally

But this game has nothing of sorts, i have played this game with zero 40k knowledge and was so amazed by my experience that it pushed me into becoming a full fan

Compared to Divinity tho it has A LOT more text, but writing is amazing and replaybility is on another level from everything i ever player. 8 endings for first companion you meet for example

It is solid CRGP.. Good game overall. You don't necessarily need beforehand information from the Warhammer 40K universe. You will learn a lot about the lore during gaming.

Steam does have a refund policy, so you might want to take a look at that and use it in your decision making.
I myself had to use it recently as a game I bought was really messing with my eyes and I was within the 2 week of purchase and had only played 45 min or so time frame.

I liked the game a lot more then D0SII as the game system is much better, again IMHO.

I love a good RPG. I love a good story that absorbs you. I love turn based combat that is tactically sound, meaning you can plan out your actions without a vicious RNG ruining it. I love a interactive world that has great graphics. I love interesting characters who I can relate to and care about, hate or love. I love a interesting and in-depth skill tree. I love a universe that comes with a established lore. I love a game chock a block with small details that add to the flavour.
This game ticks the lot and then some.

So far, the game is fun and it has a lot of good information on the setting presented in an accessible way thanks to the whole thing where it lets you mouse over stuff in conversations to learn about it.

The only part of the game I would call grindy is the puzzle they call colony management, including finding enough mining rigs to get the resources you want. It actually seems to matter less than you would think. I'm thinking about ignoring it altogether in my next play through. The only thing I could see you might lose are a few items and morality points and making the space combat a bit harder.

Hu Grind? No, but you could always make a suggestion to the developers to add some if it's your thing.
What I would suggest is if you did buy, is to buy the bundle. I made the mistake of buying just the game and then had to buy everything else separately.

I was content to just grab the base game for now. If it turns out to be my thing I'm sure the developers will be worthy of me spending full price, heh (or I could just wait for another sale). Thanks again for the help, don't be surprised if I turn up asking for more assistance in the future ;)

You're welcome, enjoy your time

Got a grand total of 2 bugs. 1 just had the dialogue for a specific event repeat thrice before moving on (so you'd read the text, click next and it would be the same dialogue again).

The other involved Kibellah doing lethal acrobatics and somehow ending up treeing herself on a generator and not being able to get down.
Had to reload that battle encounter because you can't travel without all companions close to the travel spot and she had developed a severe case of fear of heights.

Highly recommended to get the DLC.
It is really well interwoven withthe main campaign but to me it was the best part of the game.
The combat is more interesting and the story is done very well. And by interesting I don't mean just tougher fights. They add a bunch of "gimmicks" that prevent you from just overrunning everything, ie it's not just taking turns of shooting. The rest of the game is largely just variations of the Kool-Aid Man wrecking everything in sight

I second this. Op may want to get this DLC if they feel it's a game for them. It's quite a important DLC. One you don't really want to miss out on.
It would be interesting to see a follow up post by the OP on what they think about the game.
