That'll teach me not to save the game more frequently. I was at 30 PF and wanted a staff from one of the vendors but didn't have quite enough rep for it. So I went to Janus and did the stuff there. By the time I got back to the ship it wouldn't let me trade because my PF had dropped to 25! WTF?

The PF summary is no help either. It only shows the -1 for hiring a merc, and a -5 penalty with no source listed. It's got to be a bug, right? How could I lose 5 PF on Janus without realizing it?

It's not enough to end the game, obviously, but it's irritating. It's kind of the principle of the thing.

The book event can chew thru it fast, you may have missed the alert for lost PF (or it was bugged for you)

You can gain and lose PF during colony events fast. If efficiency is high, so are your PF gains.

I don't remember Janus well enough to know the possibilities where you could lose PF there. You can lose (and gain) some in events, like the burial in Footfall, hiring the psyker for the ritual, paying off the pirates, the welcome for the navigators on Dargonus, colony book events and so on. You can also lose or gain it during dialogues, e.g. the talk with the other two rogue traders in your palace. And finally you can lose it on fulfilling contracts - some of them cost you PF instead of gaining it (I saw one with -3 PF).
We don't have much information about what you really did. Saying "I went to Janus" implies space jumps and therefore probably events along the way (not the warp fights).

I used ToyBox after my first 3 games so I just add or subtract as I wish, since I have played the gamer as intended before.

But yes it can be frustrating and I often went to the trade window just to see what I could buy.
Note: I wish there was a simple trade window button on the system graphic instead of having to go through the star ship bridge every time.
