Jae's accent
Okay, this might be me who doesn't have the ear for it but is Jae's accent too be thick UK or Indian?

The voice actor for Jae Heydari is Samara Naeymi https://www.samaranaeymi.com She is an Iranian-American. This is why she can naturally do a Persian voice.

In the game Jae calls you the Persian word for sweet (Shirin). This is pronounced Shee-reen. So she actually addresses you as the Sweet Lord Captain; if that makes sense. Persian has a number of French words in it too. I would expect some of these might come up in later conversations. As I am only in Footfall at this time I cannot comment on these just yet.

Her accent clearly seeks to mimic a good native Persian voice seeking to speak English. Persians have difficulties pronouncing the letter “t”, so when she says “dis” and “dat”, you know she is saying “this” and “that”. It makes a pleasant surprise to find a Persian voice in the game. Even her avatar look like a number of traditional Persian women that I know, even though Persians are primary caucasians, not Arabs. So they can be blonds, brunettes or raven. Skin colour also varies too and ranges from rich olive to snow-white because Persia was originally an empire under Cyrus the Great. It is land of diversity in so many ways.

I should add that Persians with good oratory skills outside of Iran can easily pick up other dialects in the English speaking world. So if her language changes or drifts over the Rogue Trader story, as some contributors here have suggested, this makes perfectly sense too. I know some children of Persian families in Ireland and Scotland. Not only do they speak high standard Persian, even if the accent can be hard, like that of Tehran, or soft, like that of Shiraz, they both sound linguistically mesmerising in the English language. But their children that were not born in Iran do and can employ common English accents well too. So if Jae breaks into Irish this should be quite easy and natural for her to do and it is not uncommon to find among Persians if they lose their patience with some silly western customs.

Couldn't tell you she randomly changes to irish at times so I think it's just an inconsistent voice actor.

I mean, I figured it was Indian because she looks like one but there's many lines where I just go "Wait is that British?"

I wouldn't think to hard about it there are too many times where in the same paragraph of dialogue it feels like she flips from. French to German, to Indian, to randomly strong irish, to british to indian again then the weird caijun normal she has. My default was assume she is suppose to have a caijun accent or something? But I honestly couldnt tell you I hated listening to her at a certain point because of how often she accent flips and flops all over the place.

Yeah I check and that word she keeps saying, shareen, is persian, so you're probably right but her accent is a mess

I mentioned a while back while playing with a friend that her VA sounds inconsistent; she comes off as heavily Irish in numerous VA'd dialogues and slips back and forth between the two.

Yes. If you spent any time near a persian (iran) immigrant that speaks english as a second language, you would know. But if never did, you think its irish? Interesting.

Since you find out she is faking it later on, it's not a surprise that it changes ever so slightly or compltely depending on her stress level.

The accent sounds like the voice actress real life accent. I do not think it is a skill accent, but I could be wrong.
TaKo Feb 13, 2024 @ 7:42pm
the actress is iranian-american, the accent is prolly genuine tho she doesnt seem to have it anywhere that strong in normal speech, prolly exagerated it to sell jae's character as a conwoman and as someone who is from a planet that deviated more from the traditional imperium gothic culture

why are you trying to attribute a real life place or person to a fictional space desert planet? Get a life. Go watch the Dune sequel coming this summer. Shereen.
idk man maybe cause fiction draws inspiration from the real world and fictional characters with a voice are voiced by... real people? what?

Have you heard any of those accents before? The only one she sounds remotely like is German, and that's only with the pronounciation of a few sounds, not the whole accent.

She have two identity, one astra militarum corporal Jae (true one) another princess from Ifrit (fake one) some time she forget who is she right now, i suppose it's when all accent things start happend.

Jae is faking her persona. Whether her accent fluctuating is intentional or not, we'll most likely never find out.
Iratus Machina Feb 14, 2024 @ 2:24am
Considering she's a conwoman, I'd assume her accent is intentionally exaggerated to lure in her prey with a false sense of sincerity. Even if it legitimately is her VA's actual accent, I'd assume her VA's voice was intentionally chosen to get the point across...or not. Either way, I don't trust like that.
